Might to here be a porthole under the 2nd seat that you can look and access the situation ? Might be as simple as a gasket on top of the tank. I dropped a fuel tank on the pouring rain with very limited tools, and hope I never have to do it again. The 89 Buick didn't have the porthole under the rear seat.

The wife's former '99 Grand Prix had a porthole in the trunk, just behind the fold down center passthru section in the rear seat. It came in handy when the fuel pump needed to be replaced, though I was constantly in an awkward position. Removed the porthole cover and thankfully the unit was right there.

Depending on your skill level, this is not easy but can be done.
I would pull the passenger side, rear, wheel inner fender first.
You can see the tank's filler neck, tank, and get an idea what you are in for.
Here is the general idea.

Jack up vehicle on lift or jack stands.
Split exhaust system at muffler and remove back half of exhaust.
Remove vapor canister.
Disconnect approx 10 vapor, gas, and electrical connectors.
Disconnect filler neck.
Support tank with jack.
Remove two tank straps and lower tank.

Depending on what your problem is you have two sending units.
The low pressure pump is in the larger (primary) sending unit.

I don't believe they exist.
There is a heat shield riveted to the floor on the outside and it looks solid.

Great if you get stuck take a break.
On the tank straps, sometimes they have an eyelet on each end and has a bolt through the eyelet into the floor.
Or an eyelet on one end and threads on the other with a nut.
Only one side needs to be unbolted, whichever is easier, and you can keep them out of your way.
I would prefer to unbolt the nut with threads.

Important:
Do not bend or kink the straps, they will stay kinked and will be too short when you go to install the tank
Did you do the exhaust yet?
When you split the back half of the exhaust, the front half will want to flex.
Wire the front half up and keep it secure.

That what it is.
Go to GMPartsDirect, the one with the 3.6L fuel pump is listed as "right".
Under fuel system components.
