So I've been struggling to find a good phone holder for my Terrain since Maryland passed a strict "No handheld devices" while driving law. After trying several aftermarket holders I decided to design my own and have it 3D printed. Here is what I came up with.

I also run a small usb charging cable from my headliner to charge the phone while in the holder. I'll post better photos when I can.

Re:

I just keep it on the seat in between my legs so whenever I get a message or get bored while driving I can access it easily and look

In my pocket not that important that I have to view my phone while driving.
I actually use the google maps a lot while driving. Which is the main reason for keeping it up high on the mirror.

Also it's real easy to play music and take calls without taking my eyes off the road.

After I made the clip I realized it would be nice to charge it wall clipped into the mirror. That's when I had the idea to tap into the dome lite circuit which has power all of the time and use it to charge the phone.

i put mine in the nook between the cupholder and armrest. i had a cupholder and vent mount, and didnt care for them. since the phone is synced with the nox whenever i get into the car, i dosent really matter its location. all the info i need pops up on the screen for me anyway.i also have a giant arm mounted to the bottom of the console on the passanger side, so i can mount just about anything when i have the radio head removed.

Before we went on our road trip in September I decided I'd get a holder for my Galaxy SIII so I'd be able to use Google Maps, seeing as I was going to places I hadn't been to in 25+ years. I didn't want to have anything on the dashboard or on the windshield as I figure that interferes with overall visibility, so, I ended up with it installed below the MyLink system, as you see below. It did the job well enough, particularly in conjunction with the lovely Google lass.

Yes, as you can see in the first shot, it covers up the CD player slot. Not an issue for me, I rely totally on my USB connection for my en-route entertainment, my 128G thumb drive now holds about 8500 music selections and I can see where soon I'll reach the 10.000 song system limit before I fill-up the drive. When I ordered the bracket the supplier had a promo that gave me a free 12V adapter, which I leave permanently plugged in and use whenever I have to rely on Google maps, which isn't all that often these days now we're back home.

What bracket did you buy for this? I know this is older but you never stated what mount you used

I slide mine into the wireless charging slot on the center console. My cheapo phone won't charge there, but it's a secure place and out of the way. If I need to charge the phone I run a USB cable from one of the ports inside the center console box. Again, out of the way.
