Hi all, we bought our Equinox premier sport on January 2020. It came with the factory floor liners which I thought it was a great thing, last week as I was vacuuming the car I removed the two front rubber liners and found that the carpet and bottom of the liner was covered with mold. I cleaned it up and today I decided to look again and this time lifted up the carpet and sure enough the whole cars carpet is wet and all covered in black mold. Has this happened to anyone else???

I'll be checking our 19 Nox now that you shared your findings. If it were me that would be getting returned to the dealership like PRONTO. Mold can cause serious health issues especially in tight spaces like a closed up vehicle.

Good luck, thanks for posting and please keep us updated...

My first guess would be the drains are plugged or disconnected on the sun roof if you have one.
On my 2008 I had a firewall leak and had a bad smell.
The carpet was not wet but the insulation under the carpet was soaked.
This was the first year of ownership.
The dealer replaced all of the carpet and insulation to be sure the mold was removed.

In the winter it's easy to soak your carpet unless you have floor mats with a lip all the way around to hold the water.

Our Equinox doesn’t have the sunroof and we purchased it with the rubber floor liners already installed (the deep ones). but I stuck my hand under the dashboard right behind the center console and it felt wet leading me to think that the drain line for the condenser is probably disconnected or loose.

The evaporator drain could also be clogged you can try finding it under the car and blowing air through it, just be careful because once it breaks loose the water will dump.

I will try to see if I can get to it and get it unclogged. Hopefully is just that

Have the shop do it so you have proof what caused the mold in the carpet.

Took car to dealership and they looked at it and said that there’s nothing they can do until a water leak specialist can inspect it and determine what the problem is. But they can’t schedule an appointment for the specialist to see it until all this corona and protest is all over and they fully open back up. So they sent me on my merry way with a moldy and water logged car. Let’s s see what happens. By the way did I mention that the car only has 2800 miles.

The COVID-19 thing I get...we needed to get a car inspected for annual state inspection a few days ago and the dealer was a little behind. But now the protesting is impacting service departments? Might be time for the automakers to stop airing their constant "we are here for you" commercials.

Hi, I have the same problem as you, but me it's driver and rear passenger side of the same side.
In my case I believe it is:
-or the windshield seal which is not waterproof (badly glued to reassembly)
-or more certainly the drain hose which is blocked.

Well Tomorrow (6/11 ) I have an appointment at the dealership so that a leak specialist (so they call it) can take a look at my car and try to figure out where the leak is coming from, the first time the took a look at it they said it wasn’t from the AC drain lol but is odd because it only happens when the ac is turned on. Also when my ac is turned on for a long time and the car is parked I look under my car and I see no signs of water dripping from the ac. But hey they are the experts all I want is for them to fix the problem and replace my moldy carpet in the car.

Well just got the car back from the dealership. They said they found and corrected the problem I had with the water leaking into the front drivers and passengers side of my car, dealer said water was getting in through the bottom part of windshield that there was a gap and that they sealed it and we are good to go. Also they ordered a new carpet to be installed at a later date. when it comes in they will schedule us so that it can be installed.

Update: the leak on my car has been fixed, so far we’ve been driving the car and we had some rain and the carpet is still dry I guess it was what the dealership said lol ( leaking windshield) we have an appointment for the 29th to get the carpet replaced hopefully the install goes well and the new carpet is a good fit and everything gets installed back the right way. I’ll keep y’all posted.
