So I bought my equinox from a shop my finance works for. FOR 700.00 The timing chain had broke . It had 142,00 MILES on it. Still looks brand new on inside. Took it apart all the way to the head , pistols looked good so I replaced rods, lifters ect. Timing chain. Drove it about a month, and it started making a loud noise sounded like it was knocking, I could turn it off crank back up and it wasnt there . I could drive a few days no noise or it would do it 3 times b4 I would get to my destination . I didn't want to brake something so I parked it and started gooling.. So everything said the cam phazers where bad , every video I watched it was the same noise . We tested them like it said and they where both going bad. So 300.00 later we replaced them last night. And yet again I still have the same noise  ...... Im beyond mad I've spent so much money , but I never quit so here I am

If you have the 2.4 Ecotec, have your fiance check the exhaust manifold for a crack. These 2.4's are notorious for developing a crack between the number 2 and 3 ports. I believe it's more prevalent in colder climates after a hot engine cools rapidly after shutoff on a very cold day. Although I've never seen a leaking exhaust manifold noise described as a knocking sound, it won't cost you anything to take a gander and at least rule this out.
