Thinking of Tinting Windows

22743 Views 27 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  jproell2
I am thinking of tinting my windshield and my side windows in the front on my new Terrain. I would like to match the tint with what I have on my back window. Has anyone matched up the tint on the back for the front windows and were you pleased with the results? I live in TN and the state law says 35% but would like 27%.

Anyone have pics of the 18%? Or the 20% ?

Interested in doing this on the driver and passenger windows
here are some photos of mine with 20%....keep in mind these photos were taken at dusk so they are going to look darker.....the match perfects with the backs, i am now running 20% on the rear windows and hatch and then 5% on the fronts....now thats dark allllll day long where as the 20% would look like a dark smoke during the day instead of black

3M does make a UV shield for the front window that is almost clear, but I think it's pretty expensive...
3M makes some stuff that is 90% and blocks a huge amount of heat....my local shop had a cool setup with 4 heat lamps with a bunch of types of tint including the 3M Crystalline film.....they put a 90% film on there which is nearly clear and blocks nearly all the heat, i had a 40% put on my windshield and it cost with $285 with labor.....i have standard 3M film (5% on fronts 20% on rears) on all my other windows because the crystalline stuff is so expensive but it was well worth it for the windshield because so much heat comes in through there

The 3M Crystalline is good stuff. I went 70% on the windshield and 40% on the front doors. I live in the Phoenix area where it gets above 110 degrees often and I can say it works well.
I got 20% on the front driver and passenger doors and its almost a perfect match. If you look on the back doors, I think they are 18% +/- something like 6%. It is pretty dark. I don't think I could drive it at night if it was much darker than that. But it looks goooood!
So I called my tint man and he said the choices I have are either 15 or 20%. Which do you feel will match the factory rears better?

deffinately go with 20% i found that in certain lights the 20% actually ended up being darker.....most of the time it matched perfectly.....i deffinately wouldnt go any darker than 20% if you are only doing the front windows
Depends on what Type/quality tint. The lifetime fade etc actually will have a slightly greenish hue due to metal in the tint. 15-20 is good. I did 16% on front and it matched great then I went another layer of 16, and went for super dark!! Now it's perfect!!
Sburngasser -- How do you even see out at night with 2 layers of 16?
