15,500 kms on my 2022 GMC Terrain and I feel like I want to put my hat down.

Been going through a lot with this vehicle. Thus, suggestions and comments will be highly appreciated.

Firstly after sales:
- I bought the vehicle mid July 2022 and my salesperson told me upfront that the heated seats will be retrofitted in September 100%.
I waited till mid November to have them installed. They kept blaming GM for not supplying the right parts. How is that possible, that is out of my understanding.

- The salesperson and the dealership never realized my vehicle came with splash guards. They were not installed on the day of delivery and till this day, they are not on the vehicle. Accidentally, I went through the window sticker and found out my car was equipped with splash guards but never installed. I asked the dealership kindly to install the splash guards. The answer they gave me was “this is a valid request but we will have to ask GM first as to why they did not send splash guards for your vehicle”. I said “it’s a dealer installed item, not manufacturer”. The manager simply said “yes, but we still have to ask GM”.
Now i’m just going back and forth with them and they’re supposed to either install the splash guards or reimburse me the money for it which they kindly replied “we will give you our answer next week”.
The manager even went ahead to tell me to my face that “oh they are installed, probably you can’t see or you missed out on them. They are slim and thin so can be missed out easily”.
I politely asked him to show me where they are on the vehicle. He did a walk around and realized they are not on. No apologies or anything. Just a “we’ll get back with an answer next week”.

- The salesperson seems like a shyster. Previously, I complained to him regarding the quality issues and his simple reply was “oh no worries we will rectify everything for you. Just drop by at the service department and they will take care of it”, which they never did till this day. Since that very day, whenever i walk into the dealership, he either gets up and starts walking somewhere else, will start using his phone, will immediately turn around to avoid conversations. He even misquoted me that my vehicle came with a heater steering wheel and that will be retrofitted with the heated seats (I had no knowledge about GM trims prior to my purchase). Guess what? When I went for my heated seats retrofit and asked them about the steering wheel, the service department said “your car is not equipped with heated steering wheel”. I said “but the salesperson said it is and will be retrofitted later on. That was one of my requested features when I was buying the car”. Service department said “well, you sort that out with the salesperson, that’s not our department or job”.

- No follow ups by the service department on my complaints or warranty claims. Nothing. I have to call them personally and ask them progress on my quality issues. They act like they never knew anything about and keep springing me from person to person. No callbacks and absolutely no follow ups.

Quality issues:

- My driver side door while driving over 60km/hr has a buzzing, loose bolt rattle coming out of it. Asked the dealer to rectify. Nothing.

- Creaking roof on bends and turns or a driveway. Sometimes the roof creaks even driving on a rough asphalt. It would get obnoxiously loud sometimes to the point that at 50% music volume, you could hear it. Highlighted that to service department with video proof and the funny reply they gave me was “we don’t hear a thing. We don’t want to go crazy over it replicating the scenario as it might worsen what is bad”. I said “it is already going bad with me driving 90kms everyday to and from work”. No reply.

- Odd vibration, window creaking noise coming from the rear passenger side. Probably the quarter panel window. Gave video evidence to the service department. Again, “can’t hear a thing”.

- Speakers rattling at 50% volume like they are 10 years old.

- Worst for the last. Driver seat isn’t even. The lower part of the seat has something odd with the cushioning that whenever you first get it and sit down, you hear a crunching/cracking noise (just like a plastic water bottle crunch). You would also feel your right bum is higher than the left lol. Whenever you would move around on the seat, that same noise would be heard over and over again. Dealer spotted this but again, not resolved till date.

I wish I could post videos here. I will post the interior issues as a google drive link for folks here to listen to. Keep an eye in the comments.

I have already submitted a dissatisfied comment to GM’s own survey team but again no reply or follow up.

At this point, I either want to get rid of this vehicle and sit with a loss or have someone higher up in GM contact me and help with this chain of issues.
Not sure where to go from here.

The salesmen on the floor... many will say what you want to hear to make a sale. Usually related to a vehicle on the lot... and are reluctant to order because they want a sale right now.
I go with the internet /fleet guy. For me he will gladly place an order if he cant locate my exact build.
In fact just ordered a 2023 traverse from him 4 weeks ago. Weve gone thru him for 8 or 9 vehicles.

As for the guys on the floor. You need to show up knowing a good amount of how the trims are equipped. If they say something thats contrary to what you saw online... then find a new salesman.
One of the big ones is, sure well install the tow package.... same as factory.... in reference to a vehicle on lot that does not have the v92 tow package.

Out of curiosity... did you check the cubby/storage area in the rear?
Seen stuff put into storage compartments...

Sounds like a lousy dealer. Hopefully they will sort out your splash guards or just give you a refund for them. The heated steering wheel is not available on the Terrain SLE, so that was just an unfortunate mistake by the salesperson.

Missing parts doesn't just happen with GMC. My parents bought a new 2021 Toyota Venza Hybrid. Sticker shows that wheel locks were to be included. They weren't. They didn't really care, however, because wheel locks tend to be a pain and don't really do much to prevent wheel theft anyways.

Do you have another dealer you can go to for the quality issues (noises, etc.)?

I feel your pain my friend, welcome to the world of dealing with dealerships/salespeople AFTER the sale!. As far as addressing your seat/squeak and rattle issues, I would take it to another dealership...but it wouldn't hurt dropping an explicit/detailed email or phone call to the General Manager of the store that you purchased it from. Good luck

Well, he asked me the following question; list 5 things you absolutely need in your car.
I said:
1. New age safety features like lane keep assist, tons of airbags and what not.
2. AWD
3. Wireless apple carplay
4. Lumbar seats (got a crappy back)
5. Heated steering wheel since I do drive to Alberta from B.C once every 2-3 months and yep, you may face -25 degree Celsius or even -30 there.

Little did I know, after my purchase, my car lacked blind spot monitoring and heated steering wheel. I can live without blind spot monitoring since I rely on shoulder checks anyway but yeah heated steering wheel was a requested feature that this salesperson said my car is equipped with but it wasn't. He never did his homework I believe?
I even have 2 witnesses for his claimed heated steering wheel on the day I took delivery. And now he's dodging me.

I checked all storage compartments and cubby, nothing at all. Just a tow hook to tow my miseries to the dealer.

I'm not sure if I shall go to a Chevy dealer or look for another GMC dealer. They're like 50-100 kms away and this dealership that I am dealing with is like 2 mins away from my house.
I might look into a different dealer but I'm not sure how enthusiastic they will be to fix a warranty claim.

Write up your problems and send to GM customer services, that is what I did when the dealership refused to give me $50 credit for the heated seats.
We ordered a Traverse True North (LT leather in USA) at the dealership in October. No room to negotiate on the pricing, so I asked them to throw in lug nuts locks and undercoating. The salesman said the undercoating costs too much but willing to provide lug nuts and a set of all-weather floor liner. I wasn't sleeping well the night before so I didn't recall the True North trim came with all-weather floor liner. A freebie is a freebie, so I made him write that down on the order. In January, the vehicle has arrived. When we pickup the vehicle I asked the salesman on the all-weather floor liner armed with a vehicle standard equipment list in my hand. He went into the sales manager office and came back with a $400 reduction on the purchase price in lieu of the mats.
After we dealt with finance and about to drive the vehicle off the lot, we found the window sticker listed GM provided a $165 credit for omitting the rear park assist option (they stop that starting October 16th). I checked with the salesman and he confirmed the rear park assist was not installed. I ask for the $165 back. He did some calculations and agreed to refund $115 because our vehicle came with the heated seats, so the $50 credit from GM will be used to against that $165.
My understanding is that whatever offers by GM are kept by the customers, no matter what the outcome was. That $50 is to compensate customers for returning to the dealership if GM can't provide the chips to turn on the heated seats option. The dealership disagreed and just moving on.
I wrote to GM Canada and ask for clarification. GM Canada acknowledged my complaint and told me they will deal with the dealership. Couple days later I got a voice message from the sales manager. I didn't bother to call him just sent him an email. At the end, he agreed to send me a cheque for $50 plus tax.
GM headquarters still have some weight on their dealerships. Instead of wasting time arguing with the dealership I seek opinion from a third party and it works this time.

I had multiple meet ups with the General manager and the sales department managers.
They act like they forgot all the details next time I see them. Always the same line, "Come stop by when you have time next and we will iron things out for you".
Okay, I go stop by at the time that works for me and guess what? The person is either unavailable or in a meeting or dealing with someone else.

Like can you imagine, day before yesterday, I literally asked the service manager to put my work order sheet on the desk of the General Manager and guess what? No reply, no follow up no nothing. It clearly said "SEE ME FIRST THING IN THE MORNING".

Appreciate that.

I sent a "heartwarming" email to GM Canada stating how much I love my car, with all details and even my contact info. And that was in November. Nothing yet. No follow up.

I checked and can't find heated steering wheel option in all the trims. The salesman definitely misled you.

Send another mail to follow up. If you want try this email address [email protected]. Just state the facts, don't send compliments until the matter is resolved. I got an email from the above address advising me the progress of my case. But, they are slower because I already got a promise from the dealership for the $50. I am just waiting for it via snail mail.

My bad, SLT & up should have heated steering wheel as standard.
That's correct.
Should've done my homework and got the AT4 or SLT Elevation. I believe AT4 and Denali have heated backseats as well.
The salesperson kept saying to me "this one has the GM pro grade package so it has everything from the top trim minus the leather and then the elevation blackout package".
Guess it was not just the leather that was missing bud.

Homework, homework and more homework. The salesmen make a living on selling cars only, they are no experts and I never count on them. Some open mouth with no reactions when you ask questions.

In your case it is an issue of misled decision. Don't come to Alberta in winter time, visit us in the summer when mosquitos are striving. 😄
