Terrain V6 AWD DIY Oil & Oil Filter Change - Anyone Done Them??

4786 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  dwendt44
Looking at going to synthetic & doing 3,500 mile oil & filter change on V6 AWD myself - has anyone done them & if so are there any tips/tricks, things to watch for?

Also - what volume of oil is needed for the change?

& to get at the drain plug & filter, did you drive the front wheels up on ramps? (& if so, is the drain plug positioned after that such that you can get most of the old oil out??)

Thanks

I do all my own oil changes. I did the first one on the Terrain 3 months ago. Nothing out of the ordinary, pretty straight forward. I believe it takes 6 qts.
I use Amsoil 5W-30(GM specs) oil and a Wix 57060 filter or (Amsoil Ea15k50 filter)
I built a couple ramps out of 2) 2x6.

Not really, its a very easy change compared to some vehicles. Enough room to work with.

If changing the filter as well, then 5.7 liters or 6 quarts.

Ramps work well - only need a lift of 3-4 inches, as you can change the oil filter from the top (or bottom), but you can go higher as the drain plug faces the rear for max. drainage.

Thanks to Oracle for taking the trouble to put that up.

I'm a big believer is oversize filters, anyone using one?

Just got mine-350 miles, and the first oil change is free so I won't be changing my own until fall.

I plan on using Mobil-1 0W-30 and an oversize filter.
