Terrain towing package?

I'm new here so please bare with me as I'm just beginning to research the Terrain. I have a couple of questions I'd appreciate someinfo on.

1) what exactly is included in the Terrain trailer towing package?
150A alternator?
Trailer hitch/wiring--- I know
Any changes to the vehicle suspension ( HD shocks for example)
Anything else?

If the alternator is 150A on the towing package, does the V6 engine package come standard with this feature?

What I'm wondering is--if the trailer towing package is hitch/wiring/150A alternator, I can buy a Terrain with a V6 (assuming it has the "tow package sized alternator" standard and add the hitch/wiring myself, I just don't know if anything else is included in the package.

Thanks in advance, Ron

There is some sort of small cooler on my Terrain, with the towing package. Unless it's for the power steering. Do vehicles even come with PS coolers?

I know for sure our 1980 and 1992 Corvettes had PS cooling cores.
Not sure about our V6 AWD Terrain, but prolly does since it's hydraulic assisted steering.
The I4 with the electric steering assist may not have one, not sure.
I thought of adding a trailer hitch to my Terrain myself, but went ahead and ordered it from the factory. Glad I did because part of the bumper is cut out to accomodate the hitch. Don't know how that would have worked doing it myself.

small plastic cover pops out so the receiver can fit...

The larger 150amp alternator and battery come standard already with the V6 engines. It has nothing to do with adding it because you bought the tow package.

Basically the tow package gives you the trailer hitch and wiring harness pre installed from the factory...and they pop out that plastic piece under the bumper to accomadate the hitch.

There is no "additional" power steering or transmission cooler up at the rad section. Most vehicles would already have some sort of small coil for power steering and/or automatic transmission cooling already.

Only in larger vehicles with heavier tow ratings would you require adding in and additional coil. For instance on my wifes Honda Pilot there is already a transmission cooler coil. We added a tow package which included splicing "in series" a second coil to add additional cooling capacity. The downside...in sub zero dead of winter (and not towing) you actually have too much cooling to the transmission and therefore it is recommended to warm the vehicle up a little bit more before driving off.

The Equinox/Terrain rated at only 3500lbs does not require an additional coil. If you do tow I'd just recommend changing your tranny fluid about 25% earlier mileage than normal

From GM website

"Full Question: I was looking to purchase the 2010 Chevy Equinox and wondered why the 2010 GMC Terrain offer a trailer package with the 4 cylinder engine but the Equinox does not? I would think since they are based off the same architecture they would both have this option. Purchasing a Terrain is not an option for me to get the trailer package.

Answer: All 2010MY Equinox models, both 4-cylinder and V6, can be equipped with a dealer installed GM Accessory Trailer Hitch, Part #19202502. The MSRP is $250, plus 0.3 hours dealer installation time. This accessory is identical to the factory installed RPO V92 Trailer Hitch.

The direction to offer the Trailer Hitch as an accessory only for 4-cylinder models was based on projected lower demand vs. V6 models, as well as to allow customers with broader selection choices when they purchase a vehicle from dealer inventories."

Question is - since the factory installed hitch on the Terrain is $350 MSRP, does it include more??? The dealer install time is 18 minutes (0.3 hr) so that must just include the hitch? What about wiring?? Is it already there??

I know in my S-10 Blazers over the years, the wiring harness was there already on some and on others - a connector was there to plug a harness into.
