Hey Gang,
I have had this weird issue with my equinox since I bought it. Even with the stereo turned off I will periodically hear a scratching sound coming from the driver door speaker. It reminds me of what it sounds like when you touch a battery to a speaker's terminals.

I have taken it in and the dealership recalibrated the engine and claimed that would fix it. It seemingly did.... for a few days, then it came back. I mainly notice it when I hit a bumpy area (railroad tracks or poorly maintained roads) or when I take a curved road.

It is extremely anoying and the dealership just says there is no update on that issue. ??? :banghead:

As soon as I get a free moment, I plan to record it on video.

Anybody else experiencing anything like this

Is it a scratching sound or more like a static discharge? I'm also trying to wrap my head around "engine recalibration" and what that would have to do with a door speaker..

I could compare it to like static when listening to the FM radio, just more distinct and seemingly not tied to the radio itself. What I mean by that is I can balance all of the speakers to the driver front corner and the sound is fine. onl;y when I turn the wheel or accelerate and it is completely random there is no consistancy or repetition to it.

Dealing with Customer service has been interesting. I recieved a call from an agent who asked me general survey Q's (first GM?; How many miles?; How many when you purchased?; etc.) Then informed me my case is being forwarded to a specialist and an agent would call me tomorrow to let me know more information. So I get a call today from the agent who informed me I would forwarded onto a regional specialist who will manage my case and that they will call me within 24 hours. OK. A call to tell me I will get a call. :-\

I am happy they are doing something about it, way better that the customer service I experienced with Audi (previous vehicle). It's good to know they are standing by their product. I will update when I know what exactly is going to happen.

Also I noticed the scratching noise doesn't really happen on the HWY, only in city driving. It is getting more frequent and louder as well.

Finally fixed :thumb:

Turns out the connection from the speaker to the amp @ the amp broke. Dealer installed new connectors and nothing. By that I mean no scratch which us good. Thank you to Tricia and Michelle at GM for helping me out and following through. Happy customer once again. Now let's hope for no more issues for 100k miles.

Does "cool beans" mean something is good or bad ? That expression must not have made it to Schenectady yet.

i have a very distinct static noise at the pass side door speaker. this just started in the last month. (have had car since Jan. 11) But, what is odd, this noise happens whether the radio is on or off. doesn't matter. what is even more odd, the sound is in the afternoon once it has sat out in the heat of the day. it never happens in the morning on my drive to work, (12miles). Dealer can not confirm it. Almost like it is an energy that has build up??

Sounds like you had the same issue as me. Take it into the dealer and have them check the connections to the speaker and the amp. The only other idea I could think of was a filter capacitor shorted to ground.

If it is the connection they will fix it quick. Be persistant, no one should have to drive with that sound in a fairly new car.

Good luck.

I can't believe it has been over 4months since I last posted the static noise on passenger door speaker. Dealer says they can't verify the noise.
I told them it only happens in the late afternoon, in the heat of the day. Finally one day after work, I went straight to the dealer and
had a tech verify the noise. He said, 'that would drive me crazy'. Returned it the next day to dealer for repair. They followed a
bulletin. Still did not fix. Next day going home, there it was. Same noise. Hopefully 3rd time in will be a charm. That's all I can hope for.

Random. What did they do to attempt to fix it? Is it like the noise in the video?

My rear speakers in my old 2000 Mazda Protege make a noise similar to that, they have for years, when they work, which is only about 10% of the time. Anyways, I always assumed it was loose wiring somewhere. Every once in a while in just the right situation, if I hit a bump just right or something, the speakers will start working for a few minutes.

Moral of the story - have they checked over the wiring for it, to make sure the connections are solid? Heat can mess with that if the connection isn't very good.

Contact customer service and make sure you get a case number. this will make the dealership accountable for the repair. They will follow up on it and make sure you are happy. Also see if you can catch it on video, evidence like that is hard to argue with.

Good luck.

I am having the same thing happen with my car. I have a 2011 GMC. I am having static coming from the passenger speaker. I have already took my vehicle in twice and they cant seem to fix it. I am so beyond frustrated and annoyed. They want me to duplicate the noise but it does not happen all the time. it happens if the car radio is on or off. Did anyone get anything fixed??
