Discussion Starter #1
Driving home after dark in a moderate rain, the SBZA in my left mirror illuminated several times when no vehicle was present.

I discussed it with the service adviser when my 2017 Terrain Denali was in for the BCM fuse yesterday.

He stated this is a relatively routine ocurrence and, in fact, things like bright reflections, etc., can sometimes cause the SBZA to illuminate.

I am an aficionado of side convex mirrors on both sides. My new vehicle does not have the convex in the upper, outer corner as did my 2014 Terrain (without SBZA). I am hesitant to use paste-ons - first, I don't fancy the look, second because proper positioning would block the SBZA alert.

My question is whether or not the explanation of the SBZA false alerts is a normal occurrence.

Thanks Again,

Fred

Condition
Some customers may comment that the “Side Object Detection System Disabled” message appears on the DIC.

When the condition occurs, the vehicle is typically being driven in open area locations where there is insufficient data for operation.

Cause
The system is actually designed to become disabled under certain conditions.

Additional Options
Equipped with Active Safety Side Object Detection

Correction
Important: Do NOT replace any parts for this condition.

The vehicle does not need service for this condition.

Object ID: 4428347Click here for detailed picture of the image.

If the radar does not see any vehicles, structures, or objects for 15-25 minutes of driving, the system may think its blocked and display the “Side Object Detection System Disabled” message. The system will remain disabled for the remainder of the ignition cycle although the message will dismiss after a short period. The system will be enabled again on the next ignition cycle.

I have a 2014 Terrain Denali with this and it goes off at odd times in different weather, especially snow/sleet. The rear park assist alarms both yellow and red warnings tend to go off for no reason as well in the same weather conditions. GM told me this is "normal" . I guess I can live with it as I don't like to get too reliant on the tech.

Does anyone have a picture of the cable run under the bumper. I got the service of SBZA error after I had my Denali 2013 serviced to fix the bumper. The auto-service forgot to install the cable and finally after my complaint they gave it to me in a box. I intend to install it myself.
