Started my 2014 GMC Terrain (2.4L AWD) this morning via my remote starter. 10mins later I hopped in and the driver information center displayed: SERVICE POWER STEERING

I pressed the up arrow in the center console to clear the message and I drove to work just fine.

I looked into my manual and it just says:

SERVICE POWER STEERING
This message is displayed if there is
a problem with the power steering
system and a chime may sound.
Take the vehicle to your dealer for
service.

Anyone know what could cause this message to show up? I'll visit the dealer tomorrow when I have the chance.

Thanks!!

this is the 2.4 with Electric power steering....

Did you recently jump start someone?... but this would blow the fuse..
sounds like you have steering assist.....

This happened to my wife's Nox 2 years ago. She offered the jump start to someone. It blew a few and the steering wheel could not or very hard to move. This happened when I was traveling abroad. Our neighbor eventually helped to replace the fuse and all back to normal. No more jump start for the Nox from then on.

Sorry folks, fuse is good and I did not boost anyone.

After work yesterday, I did not see the message when I started up the Terrain to go home.

Not sure if this was a one off....
Did it set a trouble code?
If you can get it scanned to check for a DTC I would start there.

Being a 2014 you should still be under the 3 year bumper to bumper warranty.
Take it to the dealer to at least have the issue documented on a repair order.
This may save you an expensive repair down the road.

Thanks, that was my plan. I will take it in this weekend to get it scanned and documented.

I have nothing lit in my dash at this point. We will see what the dealer says. Looks like I am the only one who has seen this on the forum...

Had this, and service stability track together.
the guidelines in the backup camera also disappeared.

hitting clear got rid of them, but the stabilitrack light in the cluster remained on.
next restart the messages reappeared.
steering was unaffected - worked as if there was no problem.

problem was a wheel speed sensor.
