I noticed the rear hatch actuator leaking a few weeks back, so I called my service rep and he ordered the actuator. Took it in this morning to get it replaced. But they couldn't do it because it required a special hydraulic fluid. Which they didn't have and neither does GM factory. The have to contact the manufacturer of the actuator to get the fluid. So, hopefully in a couple weeks they'll have it. Just a head's up to anyone that may have a leak and need to have it replaced. Have them make sure they've got the fluid or can get it before going in. It's not a simple replacement either. They have to drop the headliner in the rear because the lines run a few feet forward and connect.

So it must be hydraulic and not motorized, as I would have thought. Seems like a more complicated setup, but maybe lighter than two motors.

The fact they have to drop the headliner doesn't sound good. They almost never get them put back without making a mess or damaging something collateral.

Where did you notice the leak... shaft seal?

Fluid was coming out from where the shaft goes into the actuator. It was running down and onto the rear bumper area. A pain to keep clean.
