this new to me nox 2015, has poor reception. my 2011 colorado had much better reception. shouldn`t the radio pick up a fm station an hour drive away from the base? the colorado did.

VHF radio waves usually do not travel far beyond the visual horizon, so reception distances for FM stations are typically limited to 30 to 40 miles.
The Equinox/Terrain makes two length antennas, make sure you have the longer one.
If you have the short one, changing to the longer may help, see your dealer's parts dept.

Also, if your Equinox was equipped with LED replacement headlight bulbs, the FM radio reception may be impaired.
Many after market LED H11 replacement bulbs cause RFI. . . Radio Frequency Interference .
This usually manifests itself as noisy or weak FM reception problems.
