I'm going to put an aftermarket 2" receiver on to pull a very small utility trailer. I know the factory kit includes wiring. But what has everyone done
when putting on an aftermarket receiver? Is there a 4 pin aftermarket connector out there that is plug and play with an '11 Equinox?

Is any reprogramming by the dealer required?

Thanks.

I did the hitch (Curt 2") and Curt wiring harness myself. Hitch was a breeze even at my age. I did the plug and play wiring but kept it all inside the vehicle so I have no fear of corrosion from the Michigan salt. It did require making an access hole in the tail light well but when I need to connect the wiring I retrieve it from the spare tire well and feed it out the tailgate. When Im finished I tuck it back in the tire well all clean and dry.

Which wiring did you use? The one that is just the basic wire and connections or the more expensive one with the module built into it. I guess the module is for surge/short protection. My little utility trailer just has the basic tail lights, wondering if I need that more expensive module wiring kit?

2011 terrain has 4 wire connector just left of tire under trim side of car trim housing...so you really don't have to pull tail lights and t connect in...just buy connector you need, pull vehicle connector and use 4 quick connects to the wires.

in my case my trailer uses 5th wire for trailer back up...so i had to take off left tail light to run wire for reverse signal down to the vehicle connector i referred to above...

frankly, leaving a few inches i just cut off the connector that came with vehicle but kept it in case i want it later...
