This might be dumb, so forgive me in advance. I basically want to know what the difference is when I press the lock button on the key either once or twice. I know when I hit it once the doors lock and that sensor at the front middle of the dash stays red. If I hit it twice, the horn and lights go and the sensor blinks red. So what am i missing here? And why does the red light sensor stay on? Either one press or two locks all doors.

You are correct - one press, or two presses, lock all the doors.

But the double-press can give you an audible feedback (horn beep) to let you know it is locked without having to look at the vehicle to see the lights blink.

And the red light on the dash indicates the alarm system is armed.
