I just purchased a 2010 Equinox and, has a 12,000/12 month power train warranty (car-max)

The camshaft position sensor has been replaced twice but has now fouled out AGAIN. Today it stalled twice on me while I was driving and the gas purged a few times causing the vehicle to lunge forward when the brake pedal was pressed down. The sensor seems to be going out every month since it was replaced right before I got it, 6 days later it went out again and now it has been 2 weeks and has gone out again!

The vehicle will go back to the shop tomorrow.(if I can get it there)

What is causing these sensors to keep failing?

Could the camshaft itself be bad? Skipped time? I suppose I need to tell the shop what the issue is so they don't just replace the sensor again and call it good.

I'm really wishing I had not purchased this vehicle.

* The car is making a bad knocking noise (severe when pressing the gas pedal but has oil.

* Purges forward when I press the brake.

* Sputters, shaking the whole car when stopping at a stop light

* The warning light saying "AC has been turned off due to high engine temperature" at that point, the temp gage dropped down to cold and the AC would not work. But, the vehicle was NOT overheating. Then, the car lunged forward and came back on.

*The transmission is shifting hard on acceleration and deceleration

I'm begining to think I purchased a Chevy lemon!

Can you help figure out the issue?

How many miles on the vehicle?
Hate to give you the bad news but the 2010-2012 Equinox with the 2.4L 4-cyl had a few problems.
Any chance to return it?

People don't seem to post unless they have a complaint. I would like to post a positive post. I purchased a 2011 Equinox LT2 in 2013 with 56k miles. It was purchased from a dealer as one owner certified. The Equinox now has 110k miles and I have had no problems with it at all...except for the common VVT solenoids. I replaced both solenoids at 97k when the intake solenoid failed. The key to having a good experience is good maintenance. The 2.4L four-cylinder Direct Injection engine requires more frequent oil changes. Always use the severe service table in the owners manual. I never exceed 5k before an oil and filter change. I have always used Mobil1-EP 5W-30 with a Wix oil filter. Also, forget the idea that the trans fluid is lifetime and never needs changing. Lifetime means is will last until the warranty is exceeded. Change it at 50k intervals. Oil and fluids are cheap...engines and transmissions are NOT! Oh, and regarding those camshaft solenoids, they have very fine screens that the oil must pass through. If the engine oil gets too dirty it will clog those screens up and the solenoids will fail. If the engine is slugged up the solenoids will continue failing. It sounds like the person starting this thread purchased an Equinox that had not been maintained well, or even abused. Take care of your ride and it will take care of you.

You must live and use your Equinox in a warm climate. Many have PCV, main seal blow outs because the PCV path collects condensation and freezes which builds up pressure in the crankcase.

Otherwise, good advice. I never have gone over 5K miles for oil changes on any vehicle I've owned.

I went about 15 thousand plus on a 97 Taurus. I just started dating this girl that year in like 2007. Anyways we drove her car all around for about a year and a half I had my own car... The car started knocking I immediately asked her when was the last time you changed the oil? She looks at me and goes your the guy! Meaning we never changed the oil... I was 18 she was in her 20s easily 15000 miles probably 20k miles... It threw a rod I was shocked the dipstick still said it was full did not burn a drop in that time.
