Hi All,

I recently placed an order for a Terrain at my dealer, and was able to check the status myself on the Connects website. I have had lots of issues with the person I have been dealing with at the dealer, so I have to really keep on top of things.

With that being said, here is my current status:

05/20/2011 - (1100) Order placed at dealership. Order passed GM edit tables but dealer has not received allocation to place order.

My question is, does anyone know if there is something that the dealer is supposed to do next, or if GM is waiting for the dealer to do anything? Also, is it normal that 2.5 weeks later, there is no updated status?

Thanks!
George

I don't pretend to know exactly how the allocation process works. I believe the dealer has a certain day (or days) when they can order it (officialy even though the order is in the system ahead of time). In addition your dealer may be able to order x amount and another dealer y amount of them. Potentialy depending on this you could sit at 1100 for a while or it could be reasonably quick. A customer order should take precedance over a general restock order.

George,

It typically 6 to 8 weeks from the time an order is placed for the vehicle to reach the dealership. If you have further questions regarding your order, I would recommend contacting your local dealership for more information. I can also look into the status of an order with the order number. Thank you and please continue to keep us posted.

I think I know the problem.
The order was placed as a retail order.
If it had been ordered as a SOLD order- it goes ahead of the line of retail orders and gets built.

On retail orders- the dealers have a certain allocation of cars they can order/buy.
Small dealers can order say 10 cars. A large dealer that sells more- can buy 50 cars.
If its waiting for allocation- then most likely its waiting for the dealer to sell X cars before it can order more.

something like--- hey- you cant order more cars--- you haven't sold the last 10 we sent you...

Tricia,

Is this the typical ordering process? If so, could this cause a delay with my order? I really do not like communicating with my dealer unless I have to. They are not very knowledgeable, and I just prefer to only deal with them when absolutely necessary.

Just to give an example, I emailed the "Internet Sales Manager" a link that showed all the details of the car I wanted via the GMC Build Your Own website, and she asked me what all the letters and characters (the actual link) meant. I told her that it is a link and she stared at me for 10 seconds before asking me what a link was. If they didn't give me the best price, I would have bailed right there.

Ive seen similar post on other GM car related sites.... why is my order taking so long...
in many cases- they were ordered as retail- thus a delay. Ive even seen a post where the car was SOLD - most likely to someone that paid more.
the original person who ordered was strung along- while they 'ordered' another one.

Other posters usually say--- make sure they order it as SOLD.

Do I have the option of asking them how to place their orders, and therefore to ask them to order it as "sold"? The order was placed on 5/20.... I have no idea whether or not I can ask them to change it now.

Tricia?

Thanks!

Im not sure--- I think some dealers may order as retail because some people are hesitant to put a $500 deposit.
Or sometimes dealers will order something- and then the person backs out- and now theyre stuck with this vehicle.

Ive had luck in that Ive ordered several cars. From the same salesperson- and he orders them as sold. He knows our credit is good- and 2 times weve paid cash. Ive asked-- do you want a deposit?--- and hes said- no need- I know you guys are really going to buy it.

So- Its worth a try to call and ask- its not going to hurt.
though they may ask for a deposit...
Ive read some dealerships ask for one- other dont..

Unless something has changed in the order system,

I would recommend contacting your local dealership for more information about your order. They really are the best resource to get more information about whether or not you can change how the order was placed.
