OnStar app for 2011 Terrain

Today I played around with the iPod Touch (only WiFi) OnStar app for the 2011 Terrain. I have to say, it's pretty cool. If you have a 2011 and OnStar, give it a try. However, I doubt I would ever use it for anything practical. For me, probably the nicest thing was seeing fuel remaining, oil life, and tire pressure. But it was fun to lock and unlock doors, start/stop the engine, and set off the panic alarm.

Hmmm, I'm not a computer geek or anything like that but...is it theoretically possible for someone to hack a phone lock your doors till the horn beeps locating your vehicle in a parking lot. Then unlocking the doors, starting your truck and stealing it ???

Can't drive away without key and you get asked for Onstar PIN when you unlock or start car. You can also choose not to save your password into the Onstart app itself so you have two layers of protection in addition to iphone/adnroid locked screen
Hope they will do the upgrade for 2010 car soon !
I got the app a few weeks ago. It is pretty cool.
okay i have a 2010... But i have heard talk about them doing some sort of upgrade so that the people with 2010's dont feel left out... lol. Am i correct in this matter> If so does anyone know when and where i find this app? It sounds pretty neat and i hope that they will get it for the 2010's.... ;)

Cheers

Website of OnStar Mobile Application
I just called onstar and asked about the 2010, they told me they want to support 2010 and before are much as possible. They acknowledge people want this and they're working on that.. Onstar owners of 2010 will be notified when the app is available for us.
Obviously they'll work on the 2011 line first then go back..

Yes, you need an OnStar account for the application to work with your car. Most of the features are utilized by sending a signal to OnStar, whom in turn retrieves the information from your vehicle.

Okay, great. Thanks for the info :) Muchly appreciated
Because of all of the issues I've been having with the Remote Starter in my 2011 Terrain, and having been wrongly told by the dealership's Service Manager that an upgraded 2-way Advanced Remote Starter was available (that is not available for the Terrain), and after complaining to the Manager of the dealership about this all, he peddled my issues off onto one of the young salesman. This young salesman phoned me to advise that OnStar has a MyLink application and that this would be the solution to my problems; I would have greater range, it would be easier to add more time and I would be able to see from my phone whether the start was actually successful. He emailed me the link to OnStar Mylink. I was not impressed with having to now go out and buy a Smart Phone just to be able to have a functioning remote start feature on my vehicle (why should I have to fork out more money for something that should have worked well to begin with?) but it seemed my only solution. So I contact OnStar 2 nights ago just to ask more specific info about this App and its functions. They obviously knew I am a Canadian Customer. So I go after work last night an purchase an iPhone. I get home and try to find this App on iTunes.com. Can't find it. Search and search. I call up OnStar. It's then that they tell me that this App is currently not AVAILABLE IN CANADA. So here I am, still have issues with the remote starter for my vehicle, I paid a crapload for a new phone that i otherwise would not have purchased (already had a decent cell phone), had to pay an extra $100 for early renewal on my phone contract, various other fees for swapping phones, $80 for extended warranty for the phone, I'll be paying an additional $30 a month on my cell bill because I now have to have a data plan which I didn't need before (and I purchase the cheapest one). So now I am out more money, all for nothing.....because my Dealership is incompetent and ignorant, I still have a remote starter that I can't rely on, and OnStar didn't think to tell me that this App isn't available yet in Canada. (from what they told me last night, it likely won't be until 2012 until it's available for us Canucks). And no, I cannot return my iPhone; all sales final. So I am extremely happy. Not.

Oh, so I should just suck it up and be happy when I spent $40,000 and various things don't even work and I can't even get the Dealership to help or give me accurate information with respect to a resolution such that I'm continuing to fork out more money? It was -28C with the wind chill yesterday and I was not even able to remote start my vehicle. Do you even know how cold -28C is? I should just be content to have spent a ****load of money and one of the basic features I bought the vehicle for doesn't work? Get a clue.

Sorry pal, I didn't realize when I joined this site that only positive, sugary comments about the Terrain were allowed. I didn't realize that so many of you so-called men have such fragile little egos and sensibilities that you would be so hurt by truthful yet negative comments about a vehicle. Poor little things. Buncha pussies.

Agree.
Wow only 13 posts and already ignored by several members. Wonder why? Oh yeah..we are all a bunch of sissies!!
...OR..it's because everything you have to say about your new CUV is a negative...laced with naivete..and continuing complaints. I don't think that you have ever uttered one positive remark about this new vehicle that you test drove and made a decision to buy. It's always someone elses fault. The car...a talkative salesman...or us here on the forum. It would lead one to believe that in your life there are no puppy dogs or butterflies..only a B***hy constant attitude. Especially considering that this type CUV IS an outstandig vehicle with exceptional reviews compared to any others in it's price range. Yes..that remarkable right now. Get a grip. If you can't stand the vehicle...or this forum...do something more constructive..and rid yourself of both. We would sure miss you though..... ;D

No, I am tired of hearing you come on and complain because you purchased a vehicle without doing your due diligence. The owner's manual is available online for download, and all of these issues you are having would have been explained in there, and by checking these items on a test drive since they are so important to you. You bought the vehicle, find a work around for the issues you are having or get rid of it. Your overwhelming negative attitude, negative posts and repeated posts for the same issues are getting old.
