I have a foxwell NT-301 OBDII reader, I was looking at the live values and I need to admit I don't know what most the acronyms are. Anyone have the secret decoder ring for figuring these out?

Have you tried some OBD-II bluetooth scanners for Iphone or Android? I have subscription for Car Scanner Pro, but don't know is it work with Nox

If you have a scanner and have an interest in delving deep into the vehicle computer(s) then you only have half the story. You also need the information to go with it and that is what you are pointing out. The Best solution is to get the Factory Service Manual which will give you the descriptions of the PIDs and what should be the nominal values. A FSM is very expensive and in some cases hard to get so a better idea is get a Short lenght subscription to ALLdata DIY and if you like it then sign up for longer. Most of the Data is from the FSM. Stay far away from Haynes as they are rubbish, Chiltons is not as bad but like Haynes covers too many vehicles and does not really get into the Diagnostic side of things. Good luck on your quest

These codes take the following format:

XXXXX
First unit identifies the type of error code:

Pxxxx for powertrain
Bxxxx for body
Cxxxx for chassis
Uxxxx for class 2 network

Second digit shows whether the code is manufacturer unique or not:

x0xxx for government-required code

x1xxx for manufacturer-specific code

Third digit shows us what system the trouble code references:

xx1xx/xx2xx show air and fuel measurements

xx3xx shows ignition system
xx4xx shows emissions systems
xx5xx references speed/idle control
xx6xx deals with computer systems
xx7xx/xx8xx involve the transmission
xx9xx notates input/output signals and controls

Digits four and five show the specific failure code.

xxx00 to xxx99 - these are based on the systemd defined in the third digit.



Mass Airflow (MAF) Parameter Identification Data (PID) information. With then egine at idle, the MAF’s PID value should read anywhere from 2 to 7 grams/second (g/s)

Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) Sensor. The high pressure system develops pressure mechanically, so closed loop control is even more critical than on other feedback systems.

that is the distance traveled since the malfunction indicator lamp came on.
Aka, check engine lamp.

Biggest issues with complete data is determining the normal operating ranges of that data.
That's where a shop manual comes into play as it will list some normal ranges.
An example is STFT. Normal range is -3 to +3 short term fuel trims. The closest to zero the better when diagnosing front O2 sensor operation and fueling control checked at idle.
