Have a 2013 equinox oil has been changed 3-5k full synthetic since new currently at 80k miles.

I usually check my oil first thing in the morning before starting engine it's always good.

However I've just come to notice that while my dipstick may show it being 4/5th high on dipstick in morning. I start my engine take a drive return home and wait 30-60 minutes it will only show 1/5th high.

What's the reasoning for this shouldn't the oil return to the oil pan within 15 minutes max. If I were to fill my oil based on post engine use it would be overfilled in morning. So should I just forget about checking after use and keep checking it before starting the car.

Would something be causing this?

Car is parked level and oil checks are always taken in same place. No leaks.

Apparently 15 minutes is not enough to have all of the oil make it through the passages in the engine. Good observation, and as you have concluded, best to wait overnight to check it, and act based upon what you see in the morning.
