There is an oil life monitor that tells you when oil change is required. You can check oil life in the DIC. Usually about 7000-8000 klm(4500-5000 miles) or so till change.tmozer said:Approaching 1.5 months of ownership and 3,000 miles. Not sure what the Terrain manual says, but what is the feeling about when to change the oil for the first time?
I always do my first oil change @ 1k miles because of the exact reason...then I perfer to get the engine running something better then factory filltjjkc said:I had the oil and filter changed on my 6 cyl Terrain at 1200 k's or approx 800 miles............my thought is that you are going to see the most wear in the first few k's/miles,any high spots from the machining process will wear of in the beginning,no sense in having them possibly floating around ..............The girl at the service desk gave me a strange look ,but in my opinion the oil is pretty darn important ,and the first change which may cost $25 -50 is well worth it...just my thought
Are you implying that the oil used in the factory is somehow inferior? You have been misinformed.grometsc said:I always do my first oil change @ 1k miles because of the exact reason...then I perfer to get the engine running something better then factory fill

I know on the non-premium fuel engines it comes with regular oil. Syn is going in our Ecotec at 1k miles. I cut open the filter on our last Ecotec (non-di) after its first OCI and it had metal particles stuck in it. Yes, it was a drop in filter but ya catch my drift.Roesterman said:Are you implying that the oil used in the factory is somehow inferior? You have been misinformed.
Only certain engines get Mobil 1 Syn @ the factoryRoesterman said:I know for a fact some GM engines are filled with synthetic oil.

This is my 4th car with a DI engine......All DI engines will gunk up over time. Its a nature of the best. Reason I run pp due to the additive cleaning package. PCV systems just have not caught up with the technology, and gunk build-up is apart of the game. Just needs a good cleaning @ 30k (thats what we usually said in the vw forum) Seafoam was becoming my friendbballr4567 said:Yea, its just not GM DIs which are hard on oil. Check out some of the DI VWs and the gunk they build up. A good, quality oil is gonna go a long way on DI engines.
