I'm new in this forum.
…I got my “White GMC Terrain SLT-2 AWD v6” last June 16, 2010 and put some exterior accessories like Windows Pender, Mud Guard (front & back), GMC Hitch Cover, Chrome Gas Cover, & White Side Molding with center Chrome Accent (special & exclusive order to vehicle molding manufacturer to protect my investment). We drove it from Ohio to Orlando, Florida for our 1-week vacation then go to Chicago the following week for 2 days trip. I like the new look of my GMC Terrain BUT…I heard noise that we don’t know if that is in the engine or in the front wheels. The noise is something like a bearing housing spinning without grease. The noise sound also is similar to the sound of either the Pressure Cooker that will start to boil or a Cricket in the woods. You will start hearing the noise at the speed of 30mph & up. Once I put it in a cruise control at 30-45mph you will hear the noise as well as at 65mph without pushing the accelerator. With or without cruise control on the noise is still there. You will not hear the noise at 25mph & below. I was thinking that the noise is coming from the air blowing my front grill if I run more than 30mph. Thus anyone experience the same noise in your GMC Terrain?
I’ve been in one of the GMC Dealer from where I brought my GMC Terrain AWD SLT-2 last Saturday 9/18/2010 to voice out my problem about the noise that where hearing at the front of Terrain engine & they say that they didn’t hear anything! We test another GMC Terrain 4cyl SLT1 and I didn’t hear anything like what I am talking about so they told us to get another opinion from other dealer if they found what we’re talking about… so we’ve decided to go to another GMC dealer which is near to our place last 21/9/2010 and they found it is the FRONT HUBS! The left side have a much noisier than the right side so they ordered a replacement for both of them to replace the hub. We’re lucky because our GMC Terrain is under warranty with 6,600+ miles only. They going to call us once the spare parts are arrive!
I recorded the noise using my cell phone.
If you want to hear the recorded noise just PM me & I'll send you the link.
As I’ve said… the noise is something like that if you have the steel bar & put the ring on it then spin it faster, that’s the sound you will hear…that is something winding sound. Make sure that your radio or stereo are turn off so that you will know if there’s a problem in your new GMC Terrain as long as it is under warranty because it’s kind of annoying & we don’t feel safe to drive it on the highway!
…front hubs doesn’t help to eliminate the noise…
…so they make another diagnostic & found that it’s in the transmission line! So I need to leave the GMC Terrain at the dealer so that they can fix it & give us their rent a car for temporary use. I wish they going to change it in a new one again!
I received a phone call again 8:30am from GMC Dealer today 24/9/2010 regarding the status of my GMC Terrain and they say they need to change the whole thing & they ordered it to be arrive at either Monday or Tuesdays & should be running my GMC Terrain by Wednesday!
What is the possibility that the GMC dealer can change my GMC Terrain in a brand new one? I ask this question because for me having a major operation in my GMC Terrain is quite dangerous now to drive in the highway at the speed of 70-85mph or more!
