You didn't think this was the reason your turn signals don't work why?

I doubt that anyone is driving around with a turn signal stalk that smokes when pulling it to flash the passing lights which are the headlights. I think you found your problem. :facepalm:

The smoke from the switch only occurred when I moved the switch back very slowly and at the point where the lights actually activated. So it was likely arcing slightly. Yes, the switch needs replaced just for that reason. And the vehicle hasn't been driven since that particular problem was discovered. Thank you, Mr. Insightful.

Previously working mechanical parts (sliding switch contactors) don't completely and magically fail just because they were unplugged and plugged back in with no power present. If you had any real mechanical experience you would also know that the contactors in the switch for the passing lights and turn signals are separate. The passing lights still activate fine so if they share common power, the signals should still work as far as the switch is concerned.

Now, if anyone intelligent has any ideas about the actual problem, please share.

I don't think it takes a genius to suspect the turn signal switch inside the steering wheel which is smoking when you pull the lever to flash the passing lights.

Let us know when you replace that switch and if the turn signals work again properly.
