so, I have only had my Terrain since Monday and i'm ready to do something about all my chrome on this ride. the piece that has to go first is the hood center piece. i am going to go to my body shop and see what they think. i might even see if they can buy the piece from GM without chrome so they can paint it the body color. i also want to get rid of the chrome piece on the liftgate where the GMC is.

anyone doing this or have done this on their ride? the body shop said that since it's chrome plastic, that there is no way to paint it that will look right. i was just going to see if they could remove it and see what was underneath. if it's just the painted hood, i may just have them remove it and buff out the hood.

i am not a chrome guy, never have been. i would also like to see if anyone has found the raw part anywhere on the web or with their dealership.

I'm sure that I'm about to answer the number one burning question in most peoples minds that are reading your post… if your not a 'chrome guy', then why would u get the Terrain with the chrome package. The lift gate is understandable because they come that way. Just curious…

Are you also going to do away with the chrome around the windows and along the beltline?

Debadged looks good. I also did that to my SLT when I bought it in August. As for getting rid of the chrome, have you considered Plasti-Dip? I used it on my chrome grille and it's stood up well over a Canadian winter and my 200 KM a day highway commute. Plasti-Dip has a matte, slightly textured finish. Looks good with the Onyx paint.

I haven't seen that yet. The piece I want to do is the large piece on the hood right above grill. I saw a demo for Dupli-Color doing a thing they call shadow for that black chrome look. That is what I'm thinking.
Yours looks good. I like subtle, not bright and flashy.
I made friends with the GM of the dealership I bought from so I am going to see if he knows how to order the raw part and I would see if my body shop could paint it.

BTW, the Dupli-color shadow for the wheels looked really cool too.

I like the chrome on the windows and trim. That is not as large as the hood and lift gate pieces. I think the window trim looks really good actually. I have to have something to break up the lines or else it'll just look like a black blob going down the road. :)

I wasn't a big fan of the front chrome on the Terrain, but I'm starting to like it. My wife loves the chrome. I think chrome is a lot easier to keep up then paint.

alaric, now you made it look like one of those Mitsubishi's with the big gaping holes in front.

Plasti-dip is good stuff. I use to dip all my tool handles in it. I had the red color.
How about red Plasti-dip on the center horizontal strip in the grill...it would look like you're sticking your tongue out. LOL

Well I feel you bro I'm about to buy a SLT 2 because it's only 400 more then SLT 1 but I still can't make up mind on 4 or 6 cylinder! The chrome will be gone within a few days of buying the vehicle. And the grill will be getting debadged as soon as I can find a used one for a donor! I will keep you all posted. Pics of current and previous cars I have owned and built will be posted in new members section

I think my Equinox (without the chrome package) has just the right amount of chrome to look nice without going overboard. The Terrain grille on the other hand (even the stock/base one) is a little too much for me..

i did a similar thing with my old sonoma, cept i just popped the red GMC out of the chrome and painted the inside black. that looked pretty cool. i plan on taking the GMC off though.
i will check out the plasti-dip.

i just don't like that the first thing you see on the front end of the car is that gigantic chrome piece shining at you. in sunlight it really takes away from the finish of the rest of the vehicle. it's like the chrome is too bright and gets in the way. if the piece was half the width, it would be better. i don't necessarily want that all blacked out stealth look, i just want it to be not as noticable. i am not that guy. i don't like flash.
the other problem is i have no time. i work 3 jobs and there's just no time to sit down and start a project.

Godcore, Wow, 3 jobs?? You don't have time to look at the chrome. ;D

You could always spray the chrome with Dullcoat, then it would look just like raw aluminum. ;)

Looks like a grill that's been painted over...

I'm not a big chrome fan. I don't mind most of it on the Terrain, it's just the massive part on the hood that I'd like to change. I've started thinking about a way to switch/change the large chrome piece on the hood. I'm hoping I can find something that will just leave a piece of chrome the same size as the sides and bottom around the grill.
