Hey folks, just wanted to pop in and say hello. Picking up a used 2013 LT with 48K on the ODO this week. Had a lemon with my BRAND NEW toyota tacoma which they purchased back, so GM here I come. I've been reading around the forum and just curious if you all could just give me a few things to look for on wednesday when I pick it up? It has the 2.4 motor and when I test drove it the rear hatch lift struts were a bit corroded on the actual strut themselves not the body or mounts. The dealer is replacing both of them as well as doing their "shop service" which I assume means they put some dino oil in it a do their quick detail.

Thanks for the help!!

just realized I posted in the wrong section, maybe a mod can move it for me?

Thanks!!

2016 TRD off road 4x4, trans issues out the wazoo. 5X to the dealer without a fix. Reprogrammed the computer twice and drained the trans. It's an issue toyota is WELL AWARE of with no fix on the way. They told me that my expectations are too high for the truck and it was operating as it should....

they bought it back with all interest and payments.

I've heard the New Tacomas did have a bit of a problem before with the transmissions. Heard someone have to let the dealer to do the reprogramming or something like that. Not sure how those 8 speeds on the other Toyotas are going to be as it is the first time they're upgrading from 6 speed to 8 speed.

Cterrain, I'm located in bristol. The tacoma was a good truck, it just had its issues that toyota wanted no part of. The CT Technical representative that was assigned my case said he's seen more than 15 of them come in and through the lemon law process, mine was hands down the worst.

NJ here. You should be ok engine wise with the 2.4L since its a 2013, but check the bottom of the doors for corrosion and bubbles.

My plan is to do as much maintenance myself on the nox once I get it, My question is there anything major or important fluid or maint-wise around the 50k mark that needs to be done? I want to switch over to synthetic oil at the first change and go from there.

Thanks!

I would change the transmission fluid. Drain and fill a couple times should do. I used valvoline dexos vi full synthetic. At 60k mine was getting bad.
If you have awd change the transfer case and deferential case fluid. Mine was really bad. I used amsoil.
Might check throttle body to see if that is dirty.
For oil i guess i am going with penzoil plat full synthetic.
I like it in the wife's Sienna and hard to beat the $2 quart rebate.

Also keep an eye on your oil levels.
Most of the issues with the 2.4l have been worked out by your year but...

Appreciate all the info!

I commend your energy and devotion to good automotive maintenance.
Are you recycling your old ATF?
I bet *somebody* on this forum could use it, lots of good miles left in it.

A few qts of used trans fluid is being used in a 1967 Chevy Nova that was dripping trans fluid.
A few other bottles will be used for my 1970 Monte Carlo that has been sitting in my garage for a while now- with a drip pan--- yeah trans started to leak.
The rest- I refill the qt bottles- and it goes to the Los Angeles County Household Hazardous Waste roundup event.
