Nav / Radio Issues

63138 Views 38 Replies 25 Participants Last post by  JayTee2014
I know there have been several threads on this already, but it seems like some are out of date, and I want to keep it consolidated.

I bought my SLT-2 late September 2010 (model year 2011), and as of the last few weeks really noticed some annoying problems with Radio/NAV.

here they are:
1. HDD picks a few favorites when car starts up. Doesn't matter what song played last. It will always pick 2 or 3 that it starts with.
2. HDD plays first, even if i ended the prior trip on FM.
3. HDD faves are saved, but after a car restart (say the next morning), all my faves are gone! WTF?
4. I save a NAV point, then I can't recall that same saved destination after a car restart.

Anyone have any clues, or workarounds that would help? I would really appreciate it!

Sounds like something that could be cured with a firmware update. I don't think there are any actual recalls for problems such as this...but there may be a TSB (service bulletin, only fixed if the customer asks) that the dealership knows about or can look up for you.
This is definitely not normal. As NoobNox says you likely need your system re-flashed.
Update:

I took my Terrain to the dealership I bought it from. They couldn't figure it out and ordered me a new radio. They will provide the rental.

Anyway, doing a little more experimenting.... I deleted all my songs from the HDD. Voila! Things were working again after I had loaded about 150 songs or so.

From a clean HDD, I had copied about 5 songs from an audio disk (not MP3), then i copied 950+ songs from my 16GB usb stick. I noticed that my HDD faves were being saved up until this morning.

One thing I remembered doing different was deleting some NAV favorite routes while my usb stick was copying to the HDD. It caused a little skip in the audio (audio being played from USB stick). I'm not sure if this was the cause of the failure.... So doing more testing.

My guess is that i had loaded some mp3s onto the HDD that had some empty or invalid ID3 characters, which caused something internally to corrupt.

This is really annoying! I will keep you guys posted on anything I find.

I found this bulletin and am having some of the problems listed in it. Not sure if it would fix yours also. I will be updating mine next week.

• HVAC pop-up does not expire.

• XM list resets to the top without user action - occurs when user turns off an XM category.

• Display goes up without user action in key off and door closed. (SRX specific concern)

Software interaction with other vehicle systems may intermittently cause any of the above conditions.

ChevyMgr,

Thank you for your response.

I got the Terrain in September of 2010, so at least several of the issues you described in your response are happening in my vehicle. Can they just re flash my system?

Is there a way to know the firmware version that is installed?

Thanks!
That bulletin came out in Nov so I would say yes it would help. Most programming on our vehicles is done with GDI using a laptop or PC, but this one states you have to download to a memory stick and then load to the HDD. I have three of the issues and I bought 12/29/2010 and my build date is 11/5/2010.
"Additional user enhancements are part of this update and are outlined below"

this is in the description above, does anybody know what enhancements they are talking about?
I took my Equinox in to the dealer, since the radio/nav was having problems like not being able to change the time to DST. It kept going back to the old time. And it would not remember what station it was on when I would turn the car back on.
So the tech looked up my VIN, and then updated the software.
Now it is worse.
The time is haywire, the phone tab on the configure page has disappeared, so bluetooth is not working right, people can hear me but the radio does not cut out and I cannot hear them.
It might be the wrong update, because the HDD button brings up the screen for the Rear DVD system, but I don't have that.
I don't know if the tech used a flash drive, or a laptop.
I am going back on Monday, but for those of you who have done the update, does any of this look familiar?
Especially the HDD screen that shows a A/V option in color, and the Display 1 and 2 for the rear DVDs, if you don't have that installed?
Dealer now is talking about replacing the box behind the radio, which is under warranty.

My daughter has the similar issues with her time going back to the old time each time she starts up her car. The Nav screen goes to Washington DC when ever she goes to use her Navigation. :(
I took my EQ with radio nav problems back to the dealer after he had flashed it (see post above), they did it again and now all is well. He said that the tech did not notice that the first of the two stages did not complete the first time.
It works like it should, remembering the place in a .mp3 song or recorded podcast, and all else.
so even if you are having little problems, go get the update mentioned above.

the one thing that I wish they would fix is a faster fast forward through podcasts. it goes fast through a 3 minute song, but a 45 minute podcast it goes really slow, and you have to hold down the button the whole time.
thanks to ChevyMgr and all who helped with this.
We just had are first radio issue with are 2010 Terrain SLT2 yesterday. Wife started it and was headed to work and no radio just static. Got to her work she turned the car off and restarted it and radio was working fine.

Yep - I am having the same issue. Will be my 3rd visit to the dealer. Every time I go back out in the morning I have to hit the "I Agree" button, it is back to Washington and the time is back to pre-DST. Also, it use to remember where I was at when playing a DVD, or what song I was on on the HDD. Now everything starts from default.
I knew I wasn' going crazy.

About 5 things listed have started happening in the last month to me.

The NAV default to Washington is annoying. Also, it doesn't remember the last spot played on a DVD.

I am glad to see that you are working with your local dealership regarding this concern. Please feel free to keep me updated. Thank you in advance.

Have your contacted your local dealership regarding this concern? There are many benefits to taking a vehicle to your local dealership. You can guarantee that technicians are certified and that the parts come with a GM parts warranty. For these reasons, I would recommend taking the vehicle to your local dealership to be diagnosed. They should be able to assist you further and have a plan for addressing the issue. I can also look into this issue further. In order to do more research, I will need some more specific information from you such as your name, address, phone number, the VIN for the vehicle, and current mileage. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me either on the thread or via private message. Thank you.

Had these issues on my 2011 Equinox LTZ :

1) Washington, DC always displayed in State field.
2) DVD not remembering where it left off – always starting from the beginning.
3) Stored address disappearing from the address book.
4) DVD drive constantly spinning even after all power turned off.

Visited my dealer with the TSB in hand, and 2 hours later system is updated and working fine........so far :)

Over the past week or so I've been having several of these issues, on my 2010 GMC Terrain SLE-2 V6 AWD
I am out of warranty is there a way a GM dealer would correct this issue without charging me an arm & a leg?
^ sorry I can't help with your question, but I'm wondering how your V6 is holding up with that much mileage on it.... has the interior 'loosened up' any i.e. squeaks and rattles??

Its holding up nicely, I haven't noticed any squeaks or rattles. Interior is looking good except for standard wear and tear. Over all no complaints.
