i have about 4000 km since the last mobil 1 synthetic oil change......oil is black, typical of DI but i noticed some built up ice around the fill cap.....it is -23 celcius out and I plugged the terrain in overnight

i have never noticed that much condensation/ice built up in any of my other vehicles....when i removed the cap a ring of ice fell into the hole

is this normal for the cold temps?

I don't know if its normal, but do you take a lot of short trips where it might not be warmed up enough to get rid of it?

I immidiately thought short drives.
Moisture will build up in oil- water is a natural byproduct of the combustion process.
Thats why you see vapor from your pipes when you start up your car.
but with short drives- moisture builds up in the oil--.
When you take longer drives the engine warms up- and the oil has a chance to heat up and get rid of the moisture buildup.
but with short drives-- coupled with your cold cold temps--- and well you get the buildup.

Though- the oil life monitor does take into consideration short drives- and 'penalizes' the oil life for these short drives.
