I have a 2013 GMC Terrain that has the flaking paint/rust at the corners of the rear trim panel, and I'm getting it repaired in a couple of weeks. Since my car is a 2013 it looks like I already have the updated rear insulators for the trim panel, but for some reason the rust still happened (so maybe I don't?). I'm wondering what you guys may have done to keep the paint from flaking and then rusting again after it's been repaired. I'm also planning on replacing the struts for the rear hatch as it's possible I've been letting the door down too hard.

I've attached some pictures of the current state of the paint and I think you can see the insulator there as well.
