Just wondering if this filter looks normal for the stock filter after 2130km. Side note, oil ran like water and everything reeks of gas. Gonna take the filter to the dealer and see what they say. Might just send away an oil sample to Blackstone for testing yet too.

I wouldn't use the word 'normal'. It is, unfortunately common.
Since there's no break in the media, It looks as if the filter is still doing it's job.
Worth keeping an eye on it however.

Don't know if fuel washing/contamination affects the filter media like that, but there are posts about fuel in the oil.
Dealers are changing the fuel pumps on some I4 engines.

Hopefully the replacement filter will hold up better.

I'll have to research the fuel in oil a little more. My build date is 01/11 so I hope I wont have the fuel issue. ON the other hand, i smelled the oil on my 2002 neon with 10,000km on the oil and it smells perfect compared to the terrain with only 2130km on the oil......

Where did you get the Purolator filters in Canada?

Yes it is normal. I've checked and it is from the oil pressure itself and not from the filter being crushed when installed.

I've heard of that happening when you put the filter in the engine first, then put the cap/lid on.

IF you put the filter in the cover first, then install in/on the engine, it won't happen.

Perhaps a heavy handed assembler at the engine plant??

I agree with dwendt44 statement..

earlier on, on this forum, there was discussion about the oil filter not being installed correctly and causing the oil filter to look like that..

It was an issue, as stated...of not installing the filter correctly..
