iPod Shuffle

I know GM states the iPod Shuffle doesn't work in the 2010 Equinox USB port, but I borrowed a 2nd generation (i.e., squarish-shaped) Shuffle from a coworker and it worked beautifully. I figured the newest Shuffle might work just as well, so I ordered one (my first MP3 player, in fact). Looks like I gambled and lost because it's very flaky.

I first synced numerous CDs from my iTunes account to the Shuffle, then connected the Shuffle to the Nox through the USB port. The first four songs initially transferred from iTunes to Shuffle loaded up and displayed on the Nox display screen. Then...nothing. Before giving up, a fifth song uploaded into the Nox display screen. (Note that all songs uploading in order of how they were synced to the Shuffle through iTunes.)

I wasn't sure what was going on, so I cleared my Shuffle and started over. I manually moved many CDs from iTunes to the Shuffle, none of the CDs being what initially was uploaded to the Nox. The Nox wouldn't recognize anything off the freshly uploaded Shuffle. However, those first five songs, which no longer were on the Shuffle, were still accessible from the Nox display screen, and would play. It's almost like there was some sort of memory in the Nox stereo, but I don't have the hard drive storage in my Nox.

So today, I decided to again start from scratch with the Shuffle and I removed everything on it. This time I manually transferred only the entire contents of the CD for which those five songs initially uploaded to the Nox screen. After connecting the Shuffle to the Nox USB port, all songs came up, including the original five. So right now, the first five songs from the CD are listed twice on the Nox display screen and the remaining five songs from the CD are listed once.

I'm unsure exactly what is going on, but I suspect that on my first attempt at accessing the Shuffle through the Nox, I interrupted whatever process it was undergoing and the Nox wants to continue from that point.

I'm new to MP3s. I only chose the Shuffle because I felt buying any iPod with a display screen would be a waste of money, since my intent is to keep the Shuffle plugged in to the USB port at all times and only remove it to change out songs. Basically, I'm using an expensive Shuffle as a Flash drive.

Does anyone have iPod Shuffle experience regarding the Equinox?

Why don't you just take a usb flash drive ?

I have an iPod Shuffle Gen2 with version 1.0.4 software. My 2010 Terrain with nav radio won't recognize the iPod. It says something like "this device cannot be read". I know some have had success using the shuffle, and others not. I have tried with setting the shuffle to "enable disk use" and with disk use disabled. No change. Is it my software version maybe? I know there must be way smarter people than me who have solved this problem.
