My factory radio shows an option for XM/AUX. But I do not have an AUX jack. :( Is there any way to install an AUX jack and use that button to switch between cd/radio/aux.

its 2006 equinox LT with 6 disc CD changer

Someone can correct me if I am wrong, however, if you have the button then in all liklihood you already have an auxillary jack installed in the vehicle. All you need now is to go to your local consumers electronics store and purchase an auxillary cable. You can connect your compatible electronics device (for example an iPod) to the vehicle's auxillary jack via the cable to route the audio through the vehicle'sspeakers.

What you really need is a car manual for your vehilce describing this including the location of the actual auxillary jack. I would go to the GMC owner center and see if they archive the old manuals and look up auxillary jack in the manuel's table of contents or index.

If it's anything like my previous car, a 2003 Pontiac Vibe, that "AUX" button is for the OEM CD changer that you could order, and there's no OEM solution for adding an AUX input for iPods, MP3 players, etc.

However, I had a stereo place install an adapter that used that button with a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. It was called "AUX2CAR". I think it was made by a company called Peripheral Technologies or something like that. It worked perfect and there was no background noise or loss of quality like there is for FM modulators. They also make one called "IPOD2CAR" that is supposed to allow you to also control your iPod through the stereo but I didn't have an iPod at the time, so I can't say how well that worked.

Just google "AUX2CAR" or "IPOD2CAR" and you should be able to find it.

Re:

I was looking into this also I know this an old thread but I want this too so the xm/aux button is just for xm that would be wooed into the car and be located in the rear driver side panel but if you do not have that xm module it just days unavailable..... there are some plug and play with harness kits sold over the internet but very few are compatible with the 06 equinox..... I found 3 that are but two of those are no longer sold the last one its about $200
