Improve XM reception

I have a Terrain with the non-navigation radio. The XM radio performance has been spotty along the roads I drive in eastern Pennsylvania. I know people with aftermarket and factory radios that don't have as many drop outs as I have. Are there any ways to improve the signal reception, like replacing the antenna with something better?
