*** HUGE ISSUES WITH MY HEATING CONTROLS AND BETTER YET GM Customer Service ***

I would like to say that I am extremely disappointed in GM I purchased a 2010 Equinox and coming from a family of loyal GM owners I would have thought GM would of treated me better. My father has had 5 Corvettes and still owns an 84, 5 Suburbans and has been a repeat customer. I have had many issues with the heating controls going completely on the fritz. I would set it for 68 degrees and it would sky rocket to max then I would attempt to adjust it and it would do a complete 180 back to low cold temps after a week of this issue I became EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED. I brought my vehicle in for service at Paramus Chevrolet Paramus NJ.
I noted a few other issues to the service advisor
transmission shifts were rough and would not shift (hold gears)
lock to lock on steering would “bang” sound horrendous
my heating control issues (as stated above)
sunroof leaks wind noise sounds as if it were open
Wipers chatter horribly

I receive a loaner vehicle (which I had a 2 week set back for) 2010 Chevrolet Cruze, not a bad looking vehicle just not my cup of tea. Anyway a day goes by and the dealer calls me in regards to my concerns.
transmission shifts were rough and would not shift (holding gears)
Problem resolved dealer reprogrammed computer (known issue)
lock to lock on steering would “bang” sound horrendous
dealers words “this is an engineering flaw there is no solution at this time GM is aware of this issue”
my heating control issues (as stated above)
“we replaced your AC unit”
sunroof leaks wind noise sounds as if it were open
“needed adjustment”
Wipers chatter horribly
dealers words “this is an engineering flaw there is no solution at this time GM is aware of this issue”

So I pick up my vehicle and notice everything is thrown about in the cabin...
My Ez-pass is missing from the top of the storage compartment
Glove box contents is ruffled and my manual and paper work torn, damaged and misplaced.
Dash trim chipped (from improper removal) and clips broken on passenger side trim.
and to top it off the AC controls are doing the SAME THING.

I return to the dealership and request the service manager, I show him the ruffled books asking where my Ez-pass went etc. He apologizes up and down and gives me the loaner vehicle back and says we will check out the AC controls again.
Service advisor calls me and says everything is fixed, So I go to pick up my vehicle yet AGAIN, I jump back into my vehicle to check it out, it is still doing the same thing. I walk back into service get the service manager and show him. He says “ we will need to order the Radio head unit and it is back-ordered” , lovely now I have to schedule another service with them and possibly wait 2 weeks for a loaner car. Now I am more than aggravated before leaving and expressing my thoughts of dis content i mention to the service manager “this is why I should have purchased another BMW”

I contact the 800 # listed in my ruffled manual (what a joke this was) I am greeted by a customer service representative located in the Philippines who can barely speak English. I explain my situation at hand and state my issue. I ask “sir what can you do for me I would like this issue resolved” representative “I probably will help you what would you like us me to do for you” thats just the beginning of the conversation. I am going to mail you this letter along with the recorded conversation I have with your team in the Phillippines.

Sounds like you may have to find a better dealer for service.
Nightmare dealer.
BTW, it is my understanding that if the dealer can't supply a loaner from their supply then they are obligated to rent one for you.

I also vote you find a new service shop.
Dont get me wrong the dealer was very nice, but the fact that there techs are real inexperienced does not help!

Also this is the second dealer my primary dealer doesnt give loaners
Imagine:

Secondary Dealer's technicans are horrible...in an effort to mitigate mistakes and misdiagnosis...front end folks are extremely nice and give out loaner cars left and right...still...service is inept

Primary Dealer's technicans are excellant...score well in "fixed right the first time"...dealer pays and insists on training regimes...doesn't have or need to spend the money on giving out loaner cars for those who do not qualify because they didn't buy the extended warranty...service overall is excellant

Your specific results and experiences may vary

Ok...sorry...try this then...

Based on your horror story so far...there is NO WAY in the world I would go back to the dealer you have been dealing with

There is an old saying..."first time shame on them...second time shame on me"

Now I see your original post gotcha right but the first dealer has my part in and the nox goes in tomorrow for service there to replace that part.

I want to see you get it fixed

I don't want to hear about more broken clips and mangled manuals

I do wish you the very best in this repair

I hope you receive better than the best they have to offer

2 thumbs up...

You dont want to hear about broken clips really i guess youd be happy with a brand new 32k truck and having the dealer whos trained snap them off and have it protruding out? ::)

I keep my vehicles neat and clean a GM "certified" tech should treat that with respect I know my BMW service centers are always very neat and clean. The car even gets a bath when i bring it in....its just a different level..yes I'm sure I'll get a reply from someone

"go get a BMW then" thanks beat ya to it. ;D

Umm... yeah... if you don't want to hear it then put him on your ignore list.

I say let the guy vent. He IMHO does have some valid complaints and it seems his frustrations are mounting.

You can resume your gooey Equinox/Terrain lovefest in another thread... Sorry but you are beginning to remind me of Snowitch back when I was realizing my first Terrain was a piece of junk. He just couldn't get it through his head that someone wouldn't be head over heels in love with their vehicle.
I think he was saying he doesnt want to here about MORE broken parts not that he doesnt want to see it posted.

Like I said in the OP ive had numerous corvettes (still own one) and numerous corvettes what I am really disappointed in is GMs customer service...the rep could barely speak English.
Come on I mean really? Im all calm now its more frustration that they cannot diagnose something that they are trained on.
This happened to a friend of mine a few years ago with a 2004 Accord - the backlight on the radio and climate controls burned out which meant the whole unit had to be sent out for repair, and when he got the car back from the dealer all of the dashboard trim had pry marks on it and were all scratched up. He was not at all happy and they ended up replacing all the scratched trim.
The thing about your "service" difference between BMW and GM is totally invalid.

I don't see how you could compare a LUXURY vehicle/company to an average driver company. I have friends who have own BMWs and they also pay ALOT more to service there vehicles. Obviously it would be a different level. You get what you pay for really. Thats why there techs get paid more than our techs. Well atleast its true with my buddy who is a mechanic for Volvo. Now that being said it doesn't mean you should get sh!t customer service. After you get your part in from this dealer and installed I'd go to another dealer. There is many dealerships out there that would love your business and be that friendly dealer you expect.
Re: *** HUGE ISSUES WITH MY HEATING CONTROLS AND BETTER YET GM Customer Service

I'll ad my two cents on this.

I think it all boils down to the individual dealer one deals with. Your going to find shoddy dealers who do shoddy work. It shouldn't happen but it does. The dealer I go to actually seems to care about the work they do and if something is scratched, dented, broken or just plain screwed up the tech that worked on the vehicle will answer for it. The service manager does not want, need or allow stupid mistakes. In their line of work repeat customers are a huge part of their profitability.

Now don't get me wrong. Mistakes happen. But it seems that at some dealers they simply don't care enough to do it right the first time and hope that the customer will accept a sub par repair. I don't happen to believe that just because it's a Chevrolet that the service work done should be any less professional than any expensive brand.

Hopefully the dealer in question will provide a level of workmanship that is expected of him to make the customer satisfied.

Perhaps this is simply a language barrier...

The points I have been trying to convey:

Not all Dealer Service Departments are equal.

If you take your car in for service/repair and you are getting your glove box tossed and broken clips...

DON'T GO THERE AGAIN...

ie..."I don't want to hear about more broken clips" from a piss poor job done by a stupid tech with no respect...

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE where that crap won't happen...and you'll only be posting about repairs needed and what was done...not was done that wasn't supposed to be "part of the deal"...

Get it now?

Good...You two are "reading" too deep and then "taking" me waaaaaaaay
out of context...shheeeeeeeeeezzz

I am empathetic to the OP...but as I said...first time shame on them...second time shame on you.

Terrain...I shouldn't remind you of anyone...cause I've been on the inside and I know how crap happens...and how to avoid it as a consumer...and folks who keep going back to an inept service department over and over...well, that speaks for itself. As for your ignore list...I'm sorry to see that feature on this forum...it's just a place for people to hide that like to throw stones but live in a glass house.

We like our Nox...but it's a freaking car...not a family member so get over yourself!!!
