I have had the mechanics at the dealership tell me on this particular model to change the oil every 6 months regardless of miles and they knew I did my own changes. I tend to believe people who work on these everyday and see the problems.

My issue is time, not mileage. I have never got close to the OLM recommendation on my 3.6L, as it's kind of a second vehicle and I only put an average of 2000 to 2500 miles PER YEAR on my Terrain. So my last change in March was at the Dealership using the Delco Dexos. So at this point I'm changing oil and filter once a year. With the full synthetic Delco Dexos I'm sure I could safely go longer, but a $59.99 dealership "LOF" once a year is fine with me!.

I've always changed the oil on my 2011 3.0L every 4,000-5,000 miles (with Full Synthetic), never exceeding 5,000 miles. And due to the timing of some of my long 860-mile one-way drives, I've even changed it (a couple times?) as soon as ~2,000 miles! I just changed it this weekend after letting the OLM go all the way down to zero (first time I've ever done that) ... and it had gone ~5,000 miles, but only because I "stretched" it (the last 6 weeks) to avoid a "double" oil change...

Also changed the oil on my 2002 Impala while I was at it because I hadn't changed it since MARCH! Yikes! But it had only gone about 2500 miles ...

Less driving with retirement and COVID.
I now service/change oil @ 5K

Welcome 3.0L owner! I see you've already updated your vehicle details. Thanks for doing that! I'll add you to the 3.0L owner's list...

The OLM I believe was designed to allow the engine to last 100k miles. If you want longer life, then more frequent oil and filter changes are necessary. When I worked at AAM that was the life requirement for the driveline.

I have had, 98 Deville, 99 STS, 04 Suburban, 13 Trax, 15 Trax, 17 Suburban and 18 Terrain 2.0 liter. Each vehicle i have followed the OLM to the letter and never a problem with the engines at all. The only vehicle that i had that could cause a problem with the OLM was a 04 Jeep Liberty, in that case you have the set the interval yourself. People can change the oil at whatever interval they want and i can respect that. IMHO the 5k km oil change is wasteful and not necessary.

Id go up to 11,000 miles on my 2003 inline 6 trailblazer using the olm.
And using dino oil. UOA backed up the olm.
Different story on the 2010 traverse with DI engine. The olm and many uoa, did not match.
5000 miles at 50% olm... no way the would last 10,000 miles.
So 50% was my 100 %.
5000 mile oil change intervals for me based on my oil and driving envirenment.
On my 13 equinox w 3.6, its 100% olm. Roughly 6500 on pennz platinum

All my GM OLM's would average 6k miles in winter to 7.5k miles in summer. Never over 7.5k without zeroing out.
I usually change at 10% remaining. Full synth. oils only.
