At the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) back in April, both the GMC Terrain rep and the Cadillac SRX rep told me that these two vehicles, while similar to the customer's eye, were on different platforms.

Over time I have been able to assertain the following: the VUE uses (used?) most of the same Theta structure that the Terrain/Equinox uses, but I belive is on a shorter wheelbase, the Terrain & Equinox are on the same Theta structure and only share the windshield and roof panel, and the SRX is completely different (shares no body panels or glass) and is on a combined Epsilon/Theta (TE) platform - but was also to be shared with a Saab CUV.

Anyone here with more information to share on these four similar-but-different CUVs?

This is from Wikipedia - "General Motors has created a premium version of Theta for luxury applications. Reports differ, but the general consensus is that it is a combination of the current Theta and elements of the new Epsilon 2 architecture, with some Lambda components as well. Thus this platform is sometimes also referred to as Theta-Epsilon. Theta Premium supports larger models than the standard platform."

I'm not sure how much of the SRX platform is shared with the Terrain/Equinox, but I'll do my best to find out in the coming days and weeks...

From what I've seen in person, there are very few similarities between the SRX and Terrain/Equinox. Interior, exterior, engine options, drive-train options..... all different.

My understanding is also that the SRX shares some parts with the Equinox and Terrain, but others come from other platforms.

The SRX's platform is shared with the upcoming Saab 9-4X.

The 3.0-liter V6 and transmission are clearly shared. Most of the AWD is probably also shared, though the SRX gets an active rear differential.

If I had to guess what parts were most closely shared among the three, I'd go with the instrument panel forward.

I have a 2010 Equinox. Today, I looked at a 2011 SRX. There seemed to be little to no commonality. The interior room, especially the rear seat, is much more cramped and the rear seat doesn't slide as it does in the Equinox. The front seats in my Equinox were more comfortable for me also. The SRX wasn't the answer I was looking for. Also, MPG mileage estimate seemed low.

According to a guy on another forum who works at the CAMI plant (where the Nox/Terrain are assembled) the SRX rides on a "premium Theta" platform which is simply a Theta modified with some different parts to enhance handling. The base SRX has the same 3.0 V6/6-speed tranny that is found in the Nox/Terrain. None of the 3 Theta based vehicles share sheetmetal though (maybe the roof panel, just going by what I read).....and each has their own spin on the interior, but all of the Nox/Terrain and most of the SRX pieces are sourced from the same suppliers.
