A few weeks ago the engine light on for about 30 mins. Turned the truck off and went into the store, came out and turned it back on, light is off. 5 days later the engine light came on again, this time it stayed on for 2 days, then went off. Yesterday my wife informed me that the engine light is on again. I went to Autozone to get a reading and we've got engine code P0008 which is defined as:
Engine system performance bank 1 are misaligned with the crankshaft for more then 4 seconds.
Probable cause:
Loose mechanical timing component, jumped mechanical timing.
My concern is we're leaving in 2 weeks for vacation and we're taking the Nox, total round trip is going to be just under 3k miles. What are or could be the effects if this isn't fixed in time? The engine still runs smooth/great and performs like normal.
Also, how labor intensive is it to replace both the primary and secondary chains and the cover gasket? Our mechanic gives us a $500 rolling tab at least.
Thanks.
