Got a message on the DIC that rear hatch wasnt closed. Got out and sure enough it wasnt. But I couldnt open it either. Being short on time I pushed it good and hard and it latched and we were off. I forgot about it until this morning and got he message on the DIC again that it wasnt latched. Shur enough, loose again. Again I couldnt unlatch it so another good push and it latched and then I could open it. Anyone else having a similar problem? 14,600 miles.

Anyone use the hatch between the 1st and 2nd occurance?

When it happened the 2nd time and you had to give it another "good push"...after it opened and you closed it again...any more than normal effort required?

I realize you have had it for 14K miles but...

Could it be that someone other than you isn't closing it properly all of a sudden...

If nothing has changed as far as proper opening and closing is concered I would think the first suspect is the Latch and/or Striker Post Loop (the aluminum loop on the body) may have "slipped out of adjustment"...that should be a warranty adjustment if it's the case.

The only thing that happens to me that I can relate to 'cause the Nox is still so new to us:

When I trigger the pad and pull...most of the time I let go of the pad too soon and the hatch is only partially released like you are finding when you get the DIC message...but...a second pad touch and pull (concentrating this time) and the hatch opens.

If I concentrate ahead of time to press on the pad until I get the hatch past the striker post loop...no problemo

My issue clearly is "operator error"

In closing I don't have any issue closing the hatch completely and without slamming either
So if you find you are having to exert more effort than you used to...to get it closed properly...it's time for a trip to the dealer

I have seen striker post loops out of adjustment on other vehicles that result in the same symptom you are expressing...but they were older and without DIC warnings...LOL

You are not letting go of pad too soon. The striker loop is not in correct place. Your issue is not operator error. I thought so at first. Then i realized it was not adjusted right and took it in.

I had to take mine in to adjust striker....I would grab handle and open and it would always catch and not open. They had to move striker now it is much better. But they i noticed one on showroom floor had same problem. they come from factory not adjusted correctly.

You can try to adjust yourself if you want...It is just two torx bolts you loosen and then move striker.

OK but the wife never has a problem...but it's her daily driver...

I'll give your input serious consideration however and adjust it myself.

I don't want the dealer to give me an uneven seam gap and/or end up with a water leak from too little pressure on the hatch seals.

Thank you...it's nice to be aware of your findings... :thumb:

Im the only one who uses it and up til yesterday I never had a single problem. Something it out of whack. I cringe at the thought of going back to the service dept and hearing those well worn words I hear so often "cannot duplicate" I still have a rear defroster that doesnt work for this very reason. Guess I have to face it again.

Is this with a manual liftgate or a power liftgate? Sounds like a manual liftgate?

If you close the liftgate and it does not close all the way, then it would probably be a fit issue, and adjusting the striker would fix the problem. But if you are sure it was fully latched, and the next time you looked at it, it was not fully latched (which sounds like what you described), then it is not a fit issue, and adjusting the striker won't fix it. I would take it to the dealership and ask them to look at the touchpad that releases the latch. I think that may be the source of your problems.

Im leaning toward the touchpad and not allignment and yes it is a manual lift hatch.

And if we would have chosen D-none of the above we would have been correct. My rear defroster and my rear hatch problem was corrected (I was told) by computer updates. First they said that they "probably" would replace the battery to correct the defroster issue but the cure was to "change the paramater settings in the compter. Based on the comments I got I have to assume that the computer locks out the rear defroster when the battery charge is at 70% or less and it has been reduced so it will function at less than 70% which still doesnt deal with battery drain overnight.?????

TerryG...Ever get this issue resolved? I have a 2010 LS and my hatch decided to stop working about a month and a half ago. Exactly as you explain in your first post above. I figured it was the touch pad or maybe cold weather is causing the issue. Stopped by the dealer and they want it for a few hours, which I really don't have. It is out of warranty so I decided to take the hatch apart and look at it. Relatively simple - mechanically. The touchpad is ok (just completes the circuit between two wires - tested with a continuity tester and works everytime). I decided to lubricate the entire latch assy. It worked two more times then quit again for about 3 weeks. It would decide to display the hatch open message and sure enough it was on it's safety catch. It wouldn't let me open it, but I could latch it fully to turn off the indicator.

It wouldn't open in nice weather (we had some 50 degree days a few weeks ago) or cold weather until one chilly (12 degrees) wednesday morning two weeks ago. Someone plowed into the back of it and pushed me into another equinox. All of a sudden the hatch was working fine for about 4 days. Now it hasn't opened since (other then releasing to the safety catch and turning on the message).

Arrrgggghhhh! This f'n hatch is driving me nuts. My Equinox is a company owned vehicle. The company doesn't want to pay to repair it. The dealer doesn't want to steer me in a proper direction. The insurance company says there is no damage to the liftgate, so it's not part of the accident damage, but the adjuster offered that there are many with this same complaint. I tried searching the interweb and this is the only thread I have found that someone has the exact same issue as my Equinox.

I love my Equinox, but this minor little thing is pissing me off.
