First oil change was a problem

I went to wallmart. I know that was the first mistake. Told them I need an oil change just the basic no problem. Then Rey asked the model and year. After I told him it was a 2011 gmc he told me that they can't do the basic oil change on any 2011 GM vehicles. But they could do the $60.00 oil change. Rather than $30.00 . I left and went to a dealer near by they said no problem $19.95 but I have to make an appointment. And that's what I did so I guess the moral is don't go to wallmart.

First, Dexos is not a oil, it's an oil specification. There are both blends and full syns that meet the specs.

Why would anyone mix there own oil with all the options available off the shelf?

I am a "Doubting Thomas". I felt that a Synthetic Blend could be anywheres from 1% Synthetic to 99% Synthetic and still be labeled as synthetic blend - and they don't tell you the percentage. When I mix it myself, I know the percentage. I guess I worked in marketing for too long and I know how companies will stretch the truth and lead the customer to believe something that isn't quite true.
Rit333, I understand your concern about service/parts personnel telling you something. I am the same way. That's why I do all my own oil changes. Why do you use a blend instead of full syn? How much cheaper is the difference? Full syn will let you go even longer between changes.
Personnally I prefer the full syn. I just can't bring myself to mix oils.

I have an "inventory" of dino oil on hand that I am trying to "get rid of". When that is gone, I will probably go with full syn. I tend to stock up on items when they are on sale. Quite frankly, I've been using dino for decades, and have NEVER had a lubrication-related issue on any of my cars. I tend to over-maintain my vehicles. I find it is less costly in the long run.
After 3500 miles, I changed the original factory fill oil and used a PF457G oil filter and 5 qt of Mobil 1 5w-30 full syn Dexos1 approved. All is well.
Rit333, you are 100% right. I also use to stock up on oil/filters when they went on sale. Whatever oil I had left, went in my lawn mower, snowblower, chainsaw etc.
I remember waaaay back, I bought 3 cases of oil at Sears when it went on sale for 25 cents a quart.
Now I use Amsoil. It never goes on sale, but I buy at dealer cost so that's not a problem and the warehouse is just down the street.
