Factory Hitch for 4-cyl engine

Just purchased a brand new Terrain and I love it. The only thing missing was the hitch (for my bike rack). Since the vehicle style is so new, the local dealer had a very hard time finding the original part # that the factory installs. He tried to sell me an after market hitch, but after doing some research, I found the exact hitch that goes with the 4-cyl engine. Part # 25980916 (Hitch Kit). This is the original one that the factory would have installed on 4-cyl engine. Note: this does not come with the harness or bolts as they are both extra $. Before you have someone install the hitch, first, I highly recommend that YOU (owner of the car) remove the center bottom piece off the back bumper before they install the hitch. It comes off very-very easy........someone else might try to cut it off instead of undoing the plastic snaps.

Just curious , what does it look like? and what is the cost of the hitch only and does the lower bumper part now stay out if you don't have a receiver in it?

Thanks,
The hitch I ordered is exactly the same model they put on at the factory. And looks exactly the same.

The list price for the hitch is $475. I paid $350 plus $40 for the install.

If you look at a brand new Terrain with a hitch, check out the sticker. It will say $350.

If you ever decide to remove the hitch, you can always replace the lower rear bumper part so there is no empty hole.

I hope I answered you questions. Let me know if I didn't.
The U-Haul hitch and installation previously mentioned seems like a good deal. One good thing about it is that the power is supplied from the battery directly, so it won't have any bad effects on the factory wiring.

I'm a little curious about one of the questions asked above:

Do any of the various hitches allow the replacement of the plastic portion of the underpan when the hitch is not in use ???
I have the GM hitch, (installed after delivery). On mine the plate can not go back on. The square receiver stick out further than the plate would.
I picked up a Valley hitch(2.5" square receiver) from a local shop(owned by a guy I used to work with) for a hundrad & twenty-something dollars and put it on myself.
Supplied bolts threaded right up to the factory mounting points and the thing was on in less then 1/2 an hour.

The little cover piece from the rear bumper was easy enough to remove but the hitch does prevent it from being re-attached so it is tucked under the rear floor with the spare tire incase the hitch is ever removed at some point.

I didn't worry about wireing at this point as I only have a carrier basket to attach.
I will probably end up figuring out a wireing solution later this summer if I find that I need to pick up a utility trailer. Since this is the first time I have been without a 1/4 ton truck there is a pretty god chance that I will discover the need for a small trailer at some point.

Just a heads up in case you do not know.

If you install wiring for the trailer you have to have the computer reprogramed in order for the lights for work. I could not figure out why mind did not work than a friend and tech told me about the reprograming.

I hope this saves someone time and trouble.

Sorry about bumping this ancient post, but is this true? I can't just wire in the simple inline connector like this for trailer lights?

Yes that harness should work just fine without having to program the computer.
