I'm new to the forum. I recently bought a 2017 Chevy Equinox 2.4 FWD in excellent condition from an older couple. It only has 28,000 miles and runs like new. The problem I'm having is the exhaust is loud, sounds like a leak, but only under load. I can sit in the driveway and rev the engine all day and it's quiet and sounds like it should. However, when I accelerate moderate to heavy, or go up a hill, it's very loud. The exhaust looks fine, and the sound seems to come from the back side of the engine, closest to the dash. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Check the exhaust manifold at the engine. Very common issue with the 2.4L engine.

Would that cause it to be loud only under load? I've researched it, most say a manifold problem will cause a hissing or sputtering sound. It sounds fine idling or revving the engine.
