I believe that it uses the rear subwoofer whenever the car is running i.e. stereo doesn't have to be on. I suppose they could have turned off ANC if the stereo is above a certain volume level - ha.denret said:

I'm somewhat confused on the noise cancellation feature within the Stereo. Is this on any time the stereo or cd is playing , and does it have any effect on the quality of the stereo??

Like said before uses the rear speaker and in the manual it says not to block it
