Equinox Diesel

Not much discussion on the Diesel, I have about 1000 miles on mine very happy with it so far averaging 40 MPG, only complaint is the same as my Duramax,
GM doesn't think a DEF level gauge is needed, instead they have a stupid screen that says DEF OK, which switches to a warning at about 30%.
Anyone else liking their diesel?

Welcome to the forum. There are a number of Equinox diesel owners on here and they all seem to be very satisfied with the performance, fuel mileage, vehicle trim, etc. DEF usage and determining quantity--as you mentioned--seems to be the only concern I've read. Good people on here; lots of knowledge and willing to share the experience.
Yes quite a few diesel owners here...
If you search the forum you'll see a few threads about it...including that it is not worth the cost etc...

There are a couple of people who had real issues reported here...the ones i remember is failed catalytic converter after def heater failure and one with blocked injector.

and so far many of us owners have been reasonably happy about it especially the gas mileage is above what is EPA rated on the highway and on the combined... especially that the difference between diesel and gas now is less tham 15cents in my region and they are both above $3 per gal.

We have put more than 8000 miles on ours in the 8+ months we have it. Still impressed by the low cabin noise and its cleanliness in emissions.

The other complaint i have is you don't know when it does a DPF regen....in the 8000 miles so far i caught it doing it once....because when i switched it off in winter...the fan kept blowing for a min or so.

So don't really know how many tanks of diesel fill up the particle filter.

Just drove from Orlando to Trenton, 41 mpg, even with hitting some gnarly DC traffic.

Caught the engine doing a regen once after I shut down, very hot next to the engine bay and could hear some noises even though everything was shut off inside. No message popped up on the DIC indicating this was going on. Land vehicle Vehicle Car Speedometer Auto part

Very happy with the diesel. I got 48 mpg the other day on a 40 min drive. Most of the time its around 42 mpg on highway and 24 in town.

I would suggest you comment your experience on this thread

As the thread starter there is having gas mileage issue on theirs i think
Hi,
Have had our Diesel Equinox for 5 days, really like it.
Wife's daily commute is 80 miles, round trip.
Have a Diesel Cruze in the family too, so we know what to expect.
(Bought the 6/60 extended warranty w/ the Equinox)
The torque from such a small engine is great, more than enough for merging into highway traffic.
Engine compartment looks very similar to the Cruze Diesel, but where did they put the Diesel Equinox oil filter?
Found out that HELM has no ETA on a set of factory service manuals, will check again next year.
Dieseldr
Nearly a year on ours now...around 11500 miles clocked.

Did a 1600 miles trip to the Rocky Mountains and back. Performed very well going up to 13000 ft or so. Did it on 4 tank refills...i always refill at a quarter tank or so...definitely would have done Around 600 miles on a full tank.

average mileage 42 mpg. On one tank had it at 46 mpg...noticed the trip mileage report is a bit lower than manual calculation always. I always reset Trip-B meter when i refill the tank.

On the road saw a lot of 2018 Equinoxes in Colorado...but not one with diesel :(

Only issue (nothing to do with the diesel):
The front seats and the head rest are not very comfortable by themselves ...the back seats are better ...the back passenger did find it more comfy than the shotgun seat !
Just did the first oil change!
Equinox Diesel is easier than our 2014 Diesel Cruze, as the oil filter is very accessible.
There is a "frame stiffener" crossmember blocking the drain plug and oil filter.
However, someone was thinking, as the drain plug and bolts for the frame member are all 15mm!
So I loosened one, removed the other, and the frame crossmember swings out of the way.
Very well done.

Just had our first service engine light! 29k miles
P118B-00
PARTICULATE MATTER SENSOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR PERFORMANCE

B1325-03
CONTROL MODULE POWER CIRCUIT – LOW VOLTAGE

We waited a week, and it went away, came back a couple weeks later.
Will drive it and see if this one goes away too.

You might want to get this recall fixed too in the process...

fuel filter life reset?

I just changed the oil and the fuel filter in my wife’s 2018 Diesel Equinox.
The oil life reset worked fine, but the fuel filter life won’t reset.
What is the secret to getting the fuel filter life to reset back to 100%?

Update: I drove the car about 10 miles to purge any air from the fuel system.
During the drive, the fuel filter life reset back to 100%.

Where do you get the fuel filter life monitor ? i got mine changed blind at 30000 miles...i asked the dealership on how to look at it for monitoring puposes...the support guy fiddled around the screens and then said...."hmmm weird " and basically said the tech who replaced the filter has reset it anyways !! I have a blue driver obd scanner and that does not show the fuel filter life.
On the steering wheel, Right side is a kind of “mouse” thing that lets us scroll through all the screens.

I check/reset the oil & fuel filter life here.

Anyway, the dealer replaced the sensor under warranty for this:
P118B-00
PARTICULATE MATTER SENSOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR PERFORMANCE

Did the recall on this:
Recall Title:
Diesel Particulate Filter Regeneration Frequency

And adjusted the HVAC blower software so the blower runs for a couple of minutes after vehicle shut off. The humidity here causes a bad smell when the evaporator gets moldy, this will (hopefully) help dry it out.

Also, I discovered that the Michelins that the vehicle were delivered with were worn out @ 30k miles, I guess GM put the cheapest they could find on it. Put on 4 new Michelins of a higher grade that are supposed to go 70k miles. We will see.

Dealer doing the recall wanted to do a brake fluid flush. We declined, as I have the equipment to do that. Amazed that after 2 years and 30k miles, the brake fluid they put in @ the factory is black.

Wow, so the equinox has some menus that aren’t available on the Terrain then. I’ve added all of the menus that weren’t defaulted to on, and fuel life filter isn’t one of them on my 18 SLT Terrain either.
Hit the over button then down a few times. My fuel filter life is there

Weird not in mine...on the 18 equinox. Looks like there might be some software version issue.

Don't forget there's some options that can be turned on or off in the display.
When I first purchased my Equinox there were a couple values not showing in the Information Screen.
Battery voltage was one I had to turn on.
