Ok, I've been making a few posts here over the past 2 weeks and I finally purchased my Equinox about 6 hours ago. "2011 hot off the assembly line" LTZ, V6, AWD, with Sunroof & 19" wheels upgrade.

They tried to offer me a vehicle protection package. Electronic Rust protection, Paint Protection & Upholstry Protection as one package or can purchase each individually.

IMO I think Leather treatment is bull crap...just wipe with a damp cloth every now and then and keep it clean. Paint Protection ??? not so sure....but I have always washed my vehicles regularly and always apply a coat of wax in the fall and spring to battle our harsh Canadian Winters.

Question. Does anyone have real hard evidence and experience with the Electronic Rust Protection Module?...does this really work/help or is it one of those "IN THEORY" things.

Also, any feedback on the paint protection would help too.

snake oil

a creative way for someone to part you with your money.

read the manual...it says does not need any other rust proofing. Is your car going to be sitting half underwater at a dock for it's lifetime? I don't think so.

if you want something to keep your paint good...I can give you some links for good products...~ 20 - 30 bucks.

The more and more I read fellow members posts here the more I think the dealers are complete thieves. When they steal your money...the law even allows it! lol
I totally agree.
Many do fall for the hype, though.

The system is called Sym-Tech is basically one of those electronic modules that they bolt to the car and it negatively charges the ions on the surface metal creating a field that repels rust.....they claim a lifetime rust warranty. It replaces the traditional oil type rust proofing. There are other manufactures who make these electronic rust protection systems.

My thought is this....a large percentage of people eventually get rid of their older cars or pass them down becausee they get rusty and don't look so sharp anymore...after all even a repair 2 or 3 times a year on an older car is still far less money than all those month after month of new car payments.

If this thing actually, really worked than why wouldn't GM buy and install them on every single vehicle they make and give a life time rust warranty...or even a generous 10 year rust warranty. They would have a MASSIVE competative advantage in the new car sales maket place.

These retail for like $800, I imagine with GM buyin a bulk amount of "millions" per year would get them for a small fraction of that price.

You know how many more cars GM would sell and how many people they would convert over from other brands if they said your car will never rust out and GM will guarantee it!

yes that is the "Cathodic" Protection that has been used for years. It does work. As to the need or value on a car.....don't know
