I test drove 8 different Equinox at 5 different dealers before deciding to buy one. One of the big factors in my choice was my daily drive is about 2.5 hours and the Equinox had the most comfortable seat of all the other cars (CRV, subaru, outlander, excape). I got a 2012 1LT AWD with the driver convience package. My car was brought in from another dealer and was delivered to me in a snowstorm, so I did not drive my actual car until after delivery when I was heading home.
I left the dealer and about 5 minutes down the road had to pull into a parking lot to see if I could get the seat adjusted right. It felt like I was sitting on a steel rod running right across the middle of the seat. When i pressed down on the seat with my hand, it felt like there was no support at all under the back section of the seat, then you hit a hard ridge and the front of the seat has hard cushion. I tried to drive to work and back, but it was very painful with that feel of a steel rod under my butt. I ended up buying a gel cushion to sit on to get home, which made the car drivable, but still not comfortable. None of the cars I test drove (including an extended half day test drive) felt like this.
The service department was closed by the time I had taken delivery, so I brought the car up the next day to show the dealer. I showed the service advisor and he felt the ridge, but the service manager was on vacation and I would need to talk to the manager to see what to do next. After he came back, I brought the car back up and left it. They said they looked at 3 other equinox in the lot and all felt the same. I checked them and indeed they felt the same. I had them check one of the cars I had test drove, and the difference was amazing. That seat was the comfortable one I was expecting. I let them know that if I had test drove the car I got i never would have bought an Equinox. They are ordering a new seat bottom to see if that fixes the problem.
My question is, did GM change the seat provider? I did test drive several 2012 with driver convienence package and thought they were great, but had to wait several weeks before the color I wanted was availalbe. And all the newer ones I have checked since have this same seat ridge. Anybody else with a newer equinox have the same issue?
