Received this email from the dealership care of OnStar.

Good morning *****,

We have been notified by OnStar that your 2011 CHEVROLET EQUINOX needs to be checked. When would be a convenient time for you to bring in your vehicle? Please contact our service department at #.. Thank you and have a great day!

Regards,
Dealer Info

I called service.
1) I asked if they were not notified? (No)
2) Dealer asked how many miles? (1500)
3) Dealer asked if the check engine light is on? (No)
4) Dealer said don't worry about it, bring it in when it's due for an oil change.
5) Dealer said the email could be based on time.

So after 3 months of ownership OnStar send out this email making is seem your car has an issue? You have to be kidding!

Has anyone else had this experience?

So far Onstar has been totally worthless. I don't know if I would want it even if it was free!

It is a marketing gimmick tied to your local dealer (or a local dealer - not necessarily yours). Might have been triggered by mileage (do you get the diagnostic once-a-month e-mails??)

I will say - my wife has had Onstar in her last 4 vehicles over the last 10 years and we have never had a mailing like this. I wouldn't necessarily blame Onstar directly for this.
Probably right. But tacky none the less.
