Today i had to take my Terrain to the dealer because i had something leaking... They called me back asking me if i've put some windshield washer fluid at the wrong place because i have a prestone overflow... I telled her that i know where to put windshield washer fluid and that i did'nt put that in for some weeks.

My Terrain is 4000km old and it is my 5th visit to the dealer (4 for the anoying power steering sound) and this one for this leak.

Everybody here seems to have troubles with their Equinox/Terrain... Even if the troubles are important or not... troubles are troubles...

That makes me regret i've not purchased a Kia...

My vacations starts on monday and i am going to a 2000km trip to make some atv rides.

I hope that my problem is not serious and that i will get back my Terrain for the weekend.

I am really thinking about trading off my Terrain for a Ford Edge or a Nissan Murano...

I would have a long talk with the service manager and let him know how you feel about this. They will make it right,if not I would find another dealer that will. I drive past two Chevy dealerships to get to the one that offers the best service. Hang in there and have a safe trip.

If you do trade it off, be prepared to take the financial loss. These hold there value (short term) pretty well, but you will take a significant loss.

Well if you have a good dealer like you say they should provide you with a vehicle till they can fix yours to your satisfaction. There is no excuse for this! Put your foot down and demand that the problem is resolved. I live in Michigan where we have a tough lemon law. Not sure if you have the same but it is worth looking into if they can't right the wrong.

^ I believe Supermat hails from Quebec. As such, his recourse is CAMVAP. It's an arbitration process...

Re: Does GM think we are stupid headless buyers ?

They got me a rental car, i'm not on foot :) Maybe i can't call this a car but it have wheels :)

The leak is in front of the front driver side wheel.

They called me to give me a hint about the problem, it's a prestone overflow...

I hope the problem is not important... my friend mecanics telled that that this is caused by 2 things : overheated engine... or a blown engine head gasket :(

If it's a blown head gasket... i'll ask for a trade-in...

No problems here with Equinox (I hate the 'Nox nickname  ).

I have 4500km and I already finished my vacation (3000km round trip) w/o any trouble and with a lot of pleasure!
8.6l/km full loaded for 4 people * 2 weeks.

Also in Montreal, but desperately avoiding to get too often to the dealer garage. They are ripping you off doing a crapy job!

I would invite you to go to a Kia dealer ;D. I did and after a test drive and a less than atractive offer I left without looking back. It was the worst experience with a auto salesman.

You know what they say about the first year model run right? Yea, its usually true.

Its probably something stupid or that a hose isnt on a tank right and its leaking.

What type of fluid was it? Prestone overflow? Our vehicles dont use prestone fluid but dexcool.

If it is a blown head gasket I would ask for a new engine. My mom has a 2008 Buick luzerne with a new engine due to a headgasket failure. She was down a qt of oil at every oil change. So the dealer adjusted some valves and it did not help so they put in a new engine on their dime. The engine had 20000 miles on it when it was replaced.

Dexcool is an antifreeze like prestone that meets gm specs.

If my memory serves me Dexcool is a orange color and prestone is green.

Prestone makes dexcool coolant as well.

I was just asking because NO service department Ive been too call coolant "prestone", its always dexcool. Just seems weird to me.

No, it's me that calling that prestone... it's the reference name, like kleenex...

Sorry about the confusion

That's a pretty broad statement. I wouldn't say everyone has issues, but some do. Then again, wouldn't you expect that from a first year vehicle. I have adopted many first year vehicles - 2000 BMW, 2002 Envoy, 2006 VW Passat, 2007 Acadia and 2010 Terrain - and ALL of them had a couple issues that were resolved. The only one that was a real issue was the VW and it turnedout to be awidespread issue with the engine. So to think you are going to buy a first year model and not have issues or quirks is naive. This is why we have service depts and a warranty. Use them. If the dealer stinks, move onto another.

As for trading it in, that is a financially insane decision. You will take a bath on the vehicle. Wait until the issue is diagnosed and deal with GM customer service to resolve the issue...major or minor.

That's my .02
