Periodic disconnects. Every time I plug in my pixel 5 I get sd card removed error. Text messaging is spotty at best. Half the time It will beep that I have a message, but not actually read it, and then ask if I want to reply. Other times it will read it. Today I plugged in my phone and found that the volume for radio, and all audio sources were super low. I had to have the volume maxed out to be about an 1/8 as loud as normal. Basically quiet listening level at max volume. I played with it for a while and nothing fixed it until I got a text message bing then it reverted normal and the stereo was instantly blaring. And yet, it didn’t read the message anyway. Pretty ticked I can’t get text messages without android auto. What a buggy pos it is. Everything is up to date. Not sure if maybe there is a firmware update from dealer though. I’ll check at first oil change. Android auto suuuucks. I’d be fine with doing away with it if we could get text messages. Thought our 16 rav4 system was archaic without android auto, but it actually worked, in every way, flawlessly.

I had intermittent connection problems using Android Auto. All issues were resolved when I used the USB cable that came with the phone, rather than the new aftermarket one that I was initially trying to use. Apparently Android Auto moves a lot of data, and a low quality or flakey cable can cause issues.

I suggest that you try swapping the cable and see if things improve or resolve. Apparently the system uses a lot of high speed data transfer, and a substandard or worn out cable, while it may be sufficient for charging the phone, doesn't cut it with Android Auto.

If that doesn't help, try calling the GM toll free number referenced in the owners manual. They may have information or recommendations specific to your phone.

I'm betting jimtech nailed it. Android Auto works fine in my 2020 'Nox.

Thanks for the replies. I’m using the factory cable for my phone. Does anyone else have issues with text messaging? Are there possibly updates for my head unit that aren’t available ota? Sorry, the car is still rather new to me.

Don't get too focused on software or the head unit itself. It still sounds like a flakey connection issue.
First try another USB cable. Then try connecting your phone to a computer and downloading pictures. This will verify that the phone and cable are properly transmitting data.
Lastly it is possible the USB port in the car is faulty.

Found a thread here on the forum entitled "Android Auto Kills USB power" where the OP had a Pixel 4 phone and ended up determining that the phone was incompatible with his 2019 Terrain. It's not clear how OP arrived at that conclusion, but there is an 800- number in the tread where you can contact a "connection specialist" at GM.
