Disabling the ultrasonic park assist

I aked this in another post but couldn't get a clear answer so I'll fine tune my question. I cannot disable the ultrasonic park assist feature and the beeping sound drives me crazy. I change the setting in the configuration to off, but it always reverts back to on.

I have a theory. In 2010 there used to be flashing LED's as well as the audible sound for the ultrasonic park assist. So by disabling the sound you still at least had the LED's.

In 2011 (my vehicle year) there is no longer the LED's. For safety reasons and safety standards I believe maybe you can't disable this feature anymore on the 2011's. US & Canada have different vehicle safety standards and perhaps it can be disabled in other regions. I believe not in Canada.

Can anyone here who has a 2011 and lives in Canada go out and see if you can disable this feature. Either I'm correct, doing something wrong or my system is malfunctioning.

Thanks

Does your owners manual say anything about it. This is from page 4-41 2010 Equinox manual.

Yes, I've been through all that. My menu doesn't have an option for "Tow Bar", what's that all about?
you cant pull a fuse or relay for it?
Do you have tow package? If not maybe that is why.

Now that makes sense.
If you had a towbar (i.e. trailer) hooked up it would be beeping constantly in reverse.
Good thinking Roesterman.

I don't have the tow package. But should you still have the option to turn it off anyway?
Do you have chime volume loud mmarges? I turned mine back to normal because backup warning was so loud it was startling.
Warning should only sound when you are close to something. If it is going off whenever you are in reverse something is amiss. Did you install something at the back such as a license plate cover that may be setting it off?

The park assit is operating as it's supposed to and starts beeping when I get about 3-4 ft from a target.

I can change the setting in the configuration but it doesn't retain it in memory and always reverts back to "On" when I restart the car. Like I said, I think that for 2011 models only this feature cannot be disabled anymore for safety reasons since the other redundant system (The LED's) is now gone.

Hopefully someone else with a 2011 will read this and go check and let us know.

I'll check it out in the morning.
We have back up camera so I also would like to turn off the park assist forever.
From the 2011 Owners Manual

Park Assist

This allows the Ultrasonic Parking Assist feature to be turned on or off.
Press the MENU/SELECT knob when “Park Assist” is highlighted. Turn the knob to select “On,” “Off,” or “Tow Bar.” Press the knob to confirm and go back to the last menu.

See Ultrasonic Parking Assist on
page 9‐45 for more information

On page 9-45 it states: Rear Park Assist defaults to on each time the vehicle is started.

That works but except now the DIC complains every time you start the car with "Service Park Assist". Crude. Put fuse back in. 8-(
