Diesel Exhaust Gas Recirculation Heat Exchanger Replacement

I have a 2018 Diesel Terrain 1.6L. In 2019 at 23k I started getting P2457, Exhaust Gas Recirculation cooling system performance. First the dealer downloaded a new update which expanded temperature range, shortly thereafter I received the same code, dealer took some more readings and ordered new Exhaust Gas Recirculation heat exchanger (HX) and replaced it at 28k. Fast forward to 2022, at 61k started getting P2457 code again. Went to dealer this week, it’s in need of another HX replacement. Has anyone else had to replace the Exhaust Gas Recirculation HX a second time? If so, did GM cover replacement cost?

Fingers crossed ..not happened yet...but the exhaust and recirculation is warrantied till 80K miles or so. So it should be ccovered by GM.
Good luck i have work as a Chevy tech for 10 years i have only ever seen 2 diesel equinox/terrains ever

It was manufactured for the 2018 and 2019 years only...and the best guess is that somewhere between 10 to 20 thousand only were sold in the 2 years in North America ...so it is rare. But the recirculation technology is on a lot of diesel trucks the mechanics should know what they are doing.

Diesel equinox and terrain. And even the diesel cruzes. Are extremely rare. Probably the most rare of the entire Chevy line up. My guess would be under 7500 units total for both years combined

Thank you for the reply. After talking to GM representative and the service manager it’s not clear it is still under warranty. In California it may be covered but not in Michigan. Service Manager stated that when ordering parts for a replacement, their software indicates whether it’s covered by warranty or not. Mileage is greater than 60k, not covered. Phone discussion w/ GM representative believed the EGR valve cooler was covered. Looks like I’m on track for good will repair and I will be responsible for 1/2 of $1200.00.

You are right i looked at the warranty on mychevrolet.com and there are 2 specific warranties with emissions...but they don't specify what they cover... one is "Emission Select State Component Ltd Wty" which for me is 70K then there is another one " Emission Select Component Ltd Wty" which for me is 80K ...so there is part that is state by state coverage.
If your not in an emissions compliant state, just delete the emissions. My car had 3 EGR valves put in it by 21,000km and a DPF filter at 21,000 aswell. Took 3 weeks, but my GM dealer up here and a tuner figured it out. I've been running a straight pipe turbo to mufflers with an EGR blocker and no issues! Not thr mention the 48-55 imp MPG I'm getting.
Have you had a Re-Gen done? Usually once a year (normally the first night under 30°) mine will throw some codes for exhausts and sensors, I take it to my brother in law who does a regen for me and sorts it out. I have about 60k on my 2018 Diesel Nox

We just hit 60k and had same code. They are not covering the cost but you had it happen twice so I can see why they should.

This just happened to us at 60K. It was not covered by dealer.
