Quite a few road tests of the 2010 Equinox say that they have ice blue dash lights at night. I test drove a 2010 at night and the dash lights were an aqua or more of a teal colour. I am from Canada and am wondering if the dash lighting in the U.S.A. is actually ice blue or the same as the Canadian models? From the Equinox road test we went to the Hyundai dealer and test drove a 2010 Santa Fe. Now it had ice blue lighting. Was very pretty.

I could see where the color could be called aqua or teal. Unfortunately I don’t have any interior pictures of the lighting at night. The best way I could think of relating the color would be to compare it to the DIC display.

It is about the same color blue. But it’s not a harsh LED light, I think it is a little softer. GM put a little diffusion material in front of the LED’s, makes for a softer light.

I am in the Vancouver area and just took delivery of a 2010 LTZ. I am no expert when it comes to colour (just ask my wife) but I would have to say that the accent lighting (around the centre info area/radio and in the cup holders) would be called an ice blue. Whatever colour you call it, the lighting is very nice. I love this vehicle!

Could not agree more!!!

The quality ice blue (soft light blue) ambient lighting adds to the cabin cannot be overstated. Having that touch of color all throughout the cabin as markers at night is frickin' gorgeous! One thing important to note I think is that the dash lights "speedometer & tach" aren't the ambient blue. They are black background with small white numbers. They are also great. Very easy to read but not glaring like a lot of speed/tach lighting is.

Night lighting in the cabin is a very important thing that many never check out before they buy a new car and it's a HUGE mistake. I personally always take a car into a garage specifically to test out the night lighting. I learned this lesson the hard way on a Dodge Nitro. It had gauges that not only had big numbers that lighted up white but also this big illuminated white ring circling underneath the numbers on each gauge. It was blinding, and if you turned it down to where it wasn't then you could barely read the numbers.

The 2010 nox is EXCELLENT in the night lighting department. And that's coming from someone who's wife has a new VW Jetta that has beautiful blue (almost purple) cabin lighting and I traded in an Audi A6 with the deluxe red cabin lighting. To me the nox interior lighting is state of the art.

A couple things my wife loves about the lighting is 1. the lights around the radio stack. The ads say it makes the stack look like it's floating, and I somewhat agree. Very nice touch. and 2. the overhead light that shoots downwward onto the gear shift and cup holders. Unless you are really looking you might miss that this light actually is there as it's very well hidden in the roof. But it provides a small amount of light directly downward onto the shift lever and cup holder from up above. It looks like lights from the dash, but it's actually from above and provides good light to see what's in the center.

LOL! That's what my Traverse looked like the night we bought our 'Nox (which sits in the garage now...)

Just hold your hand a inch or few in front of the rear view mirror at night and the top of your hand will get elluminated by the blue light. You can then follow it up to the liner to find it well hidden behind an edge of plastic design for the buttons and stuff to keep the shine from getting in the driver's eyes.

That "in the drivers eye's" problem was big in the first vehicles that GM made with this cool feature. Our old HHR was amung the first with this light. Unfortunately it was not very well hidden and you could see it shining downward from the drivers seat. GM improved it greatly in my Traverse from last year, making the light recess non-reflective so it wasn't easily seen. But the 'Nox's method of actually fully hiding behind something is genius! Way to go GM!

Good point. Next test drive, while the salesman is hurling after the curvy, hilly road test, I'll pull it into a garage and test the night lights. Something I hadn't thought of, but your right, that is part of what makes the Nox so pleasant to drive on long trips (and I like driving at night because the traffic is much lighter).
Yeh it's kinda hard to take a car back and say... I want to return this vehicle because I just found out I don't like the dash lights.

It's important to either find a dark place or check out the car once at night so you know everything about it.

Mine has this - its a very subtle blue light, but effective. I discovered it a few nights ago, but never did figure out exactly where it was coming from. Am going out in a bit, so I'm going to investigate further.

Update: Well, turns out its a lot easier to find when you're not barrelling down the freeway. :)

Here is the best example of what "Ambient Lighting" is. Notice the blue light trails down the left and right side of the radio? There are other points in the dash and around the cabin, but this one is the most easily shown one. Lights like these that don't provide any use, but do make the interior look cool are the ambient ones. I wish GM would do what Ford did with some of their cars and make the lights change color if wanted.

I like the lighting of the new Equinox...Much better then my Impala and the cobalt ss/tc I traded in.

Was taking some pictures tonite...Fixed the one issue I had with lighting (outdated filement style lights for map/cargo with led's)

I'll get some better ones of the interior @ night. I didnt have my tri-pod which I will need to get such a long exposure, its just already late. The ambient light also has 2 blue leds, 1 in the cup holder, then 1 overhead map light area, it shines down into your shift/cup holder area as well. Then around the radio you get the edge lighting (barely shown in my picture..need longer exposure to capture it better)

Wow!!!! That looks nice never seen a car with blue interior lights... thanks for the pictures...can't wait till I get my new equinox
The photos due not give justice. The interior is what sold me on the equinox vs other setups I was looking at...including trailblazer ss's (which have speed....something I'm more used to owning, this is my slowest personally owned car)

I agree 100% with grometsc, you just gotta see it. GM has taken a beating for years in the publications on automobiles about their interiors (wrongly IMHO) so they've really upped the ante on the look and feel inside their cars. Some still say they don't look as "quality", but I have witnessed that the GM interiors will last many many more years than those so-called "quality" interiors from foreign cars.

those are great pics thanks for sharing. That is one thing I wish the terrain would have is the blue light over the red. Both very stylish or maybe like someone mentioned changing colors would be kinda of a neat feature as well.

By LadyNancy: The blue lights are AMAZING!!! Especially when you're driving at nighttime, all alone in the car, listening to the "Spa" channel on XM radio. (That's a tip for all the ladies here.)
Fully agree about the blue lights at night! As far as the "Spa" goes, to each his/her own. When my wife gets in the Nox it takes her about 6 seconds to reset XM to the next station down from Spa: #73 Seriously Sinatra. So I had to add it to a preset, although she rides in my Nox only rarely. :D

There are 6 possible pages of pre-sets or"Favs" so everybody can have their own page!
